ROBBINSVILLLE, N.J -- On Sunday, high school football prospects from across the Eastern Seaboard converged on Ro, La. as they sought to showcase their skills in the NUC Five-Star Showcase. NUC President and CEO Dave Schuman along with NUC National Recruiting Analyst Barry Every evaluated the top players at the camp at Robbinsville Field House as several players performed in hopes of improving their stock in the all-important recruiting process.
Less than 200 players were chosen for the event, where they took part in one-on-ones and various other drills, to be evaluated by the coaches. From the pool of players that participated, MVPs were chosen for each position, in addition to the one player who exemplified leadership among his peers.
Here is 30-21:
30) Malique Belfort of Tottenville, N.Y. is a tall, athletic wide receiver at 6-3, 162. He has fantastic potential and a great work ethic - a playmaker.
29) Nayi Johnson of Carteret, N.J. is a huge fullback with great athleticism at 5-8 ½, 229. He has excellent hands and good speed.
28) Darin Peart of Erasmus Hall in N.Y. is an underclassmen who is a big-time D1 prospect as a cornerback or safety. He has fantastic ball skills, great footwork and sound technique.
27) Evrett Edwards of Woodbridge High in Va. is a long-armed, playmaking corner who is already committed to Duke University. Edwards has great athleticism and good speed.
26) Marvin Gross Jr. of Dunbar in Md. is an extremely fast and athletic pass rusher who is probably a linebacker at the next level. He's undersized but posted 31 sacks as a junior - the fastest defensive lineman at the showcase.
25) Jay Hayes of Poly Prep in N.Y. is a very strong, excellent three technique defensive tackle. He has excellent hands and is a tremendous D1 prospect. Hayes already has offers from UConn and Rutgers.
24) Arturo Brown of Yorktown, Va. is a great athlete who is very fast and has great change of direction skills. He has great skills and great hands for a running back at 5-7, 164.
23) Jared Miney of John P. Stevens in N.J. is a corner with great cover skills at 5-7, 146. He plays bigger than his size and has great quickness.
22) Caleb Scepniak of Union Endicott in N.Y. has tremendous size for a QB at 6-5 ½, 224. He has great arm strength, great drops and looks the part. He delivers the ball on time but must work on timing consistency. He has offers from Buffalo, Fordham, Duke and Wagner.
21) Thomas Plonski of Brooklyn Tech in N.Y. is a long and fast strongside defensive end at 6-5 ½, 229. He has a great first step and is really physical.
