Scarborough HS will be hosting the NUC's inaugural area combine this Sunday, giving Pine Tree State prospects an opportunity to compete with other local prospects looking to jumpstart their recruiting. Maine may be a tiny state, but two of their very own rated amongst the elite at last year's Ultimate 100 Camp.
South Portland's Michael Foley was one of the very best receivers at New Jersey's U100 in 2009. The 5'10.5 175 lb standout had a 34 inch vertical, 8'11 broad jump, ran a 4.5 shuttle and displayed outstanding hands. Foley's athleticism and pure skill as a wideout earned him a top notch ranking.
QB Collin Downs of Camden Hills HS had an awesome arm, nice footwork and makes smart choices. The rising senior also had a 9'1 broad jump and bench pressed 155 lbs 20 times, placing him in the top five sophomore QB's just one year ago.
"Maine is a bit of a mystery to us", said NUC CEO & President David Schuman. "We had a few good players from there, but not a ton of registrants, so the overall level their athletes are at remains to be seen."
Current 8th/9th graders are slated to compete at 8 am, while sophomores and juniors have their chance for glory at1 pm Sunday.
All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions. In addition to the elite athletes receiving coverage on Rivals and Espn.com, statistics of every participant will be sent out to colleges at all three levels.
Athletes can sign up for the Portland Maine combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
