Freshman set the tone at Baton Rouge freshman combine!
Loreauville HS' Jermaine Antoine capped a solid freshman session at Zachary HS last Saturday. Antoine, 5'9 163, took home the Overall MVP honors after putting together an impressive all around performance. Antonie had a 9'1 broad jump, ran a 4.52 shuttle and was a stud during 1 on 1's. He had quick feet and good hands, making him a viable option to get the ball at any time.
Curtis Jones (St. John) and Chris Taylor (Zachary) took home the DL and OL MVP respectively. Each were over 300 lbs and had massive strength which helped power them during 1 on 1's. Their bulk can really create problems for players at this level.
Jamal Chevis (Beau Chene) was the day's top RB. The 5'7 146 lb prospect had good strength and was powerful during the individual position period. He also had an 8'4 broad jump and 29 inch vertical in addition to bench pressing 135 lbs 24 times.
Donald Gage (Redemptorist) was the top athlete of the frosh session, taking home the Combine King award. The 5'10 156 lb WR had a 30 inch vertical, 8'7 broad jump, ran a 4.56 shuttle, 4.68 40 and bench pressed 135 lbs 15 times. His all around athletic gifts can help him become a star at wide out as long as he continues to improve on his route running.
With athletes like Antonie Gage, Chevis, Jones and Taylor, Baton Rouge remains a hotbed for football.
