Big Boys Steal the Junior Combine in Baton Rouge!
Darren Harrell, 6'0 435 lbs of pure power, literally dropped jaws of scouts, coaches, parents and fellow athletes at the combine. The Marksville HS rising senior won the OL MVP and Strongest Man award. Harrell bench pressed 185 lbs 33 times and was literally impossible to move during the individual period. I can only imagine what it is like for a 16 year old d-lineman attempting to get past a player bigger than any anybody in the NFL. Harrell needs to get in better shape, but he has the talent and surprising quickness to do something.
Ezekiel "The Animal" Alsander (Southern Lab) was yet another OL who eliminated hope from the opposing linemen during 1 on 1's. While not as big as Harrell, Alsander was 6'5 287 of pure power. He bench pressed 185 lbs 23 times and did a nice job during 1 on 1's en route to claiming the co-OL MVP.
Raheem Richard (Thibodeaux) was the top athlete at the combine. Richard, 5'6 152, had a 39 inch vertical, 9'9 broad jump, ran a 4.44 40 and 4.62 shuttle. His ability to dominate in all of the testing make him a viable asset to any team. If he continues to improve as a RB, the sky is the limit.
Stevie Douglas (Home School) is one of our personal favorites. The 6'4 194 lb QB has played with a home school football team and previously didn't have any type of exposure. This was until 09', where he took home an MVP at the combine. Douglas once again starred, taking home the QB MVP. He has a great release, good feet, terrific leadership skills, throws a good ball and has a cannon for an arm. Douglas is a great story and with further coaching, he has the kind of story that can capture the hearts of many.
Devin Fosselman (Wilkinson County) was another stud athlete and could really play WR as well. The 5'9.5 183 lb Fosselman had a 39 inch vertical, 9'6 broad jump, ran a 4.63 shuttle, 4.55 40 and has solid hands en route to winning the WR MVP. It must be fun to throw to a QB who can leap like this kid!
Oh and how could we forget, Derrick Milton, the Overall MVP from Pineville HS! Milton, 5'10 189, had a unbelievable 39.5 inch vertical 9'10 broad jump, ran a 4.49 shuttle, 4.57 40 and starred during the 1 on 1's. From a RB standpoint, he did a great job of exploding off of the line and has unprecedented athleticism.
To say the players in Baton Rouge were very good wouldn't be honest. This junior session was simply one for the ages.
