Dutchtown SS tops at sophomore event
Dutchtown strong safety Landon Collins was named the Combine King and Overall MVP at Saturday's Sophomore National Underclassman Combine event at Zachary High School. The event drew nearly 200 kids from throughout Louisiana.
There is little doubt Collins will be one of the Class of 2012's top prospects. The 5-foot-11.5, 199 pounder posted the fastest 40-yard dash time at 4.48 seconds and also had the best vertical leap of 35.5 inches. Factor in an impressive broad jump of 10 feet, 6 inches and his 24 bench reps at 155 pounds.
Collins also performed extremely well in defensive back drills and one-on-one drills. He is fast, but alo very physical with great ball skills as well. He can legitimately play every position in the secondary and is physical enough to project at a linebacker spot.
"I just work hard to keep up with the fastest guys on my team," Collins said, smiling.
The future continues to look bright to Lutcher. The Bulldogs had four players share MVP honors. Teammates Kyron Jackson and Ian Podufalski were Defensive Backs Co-MVPs. Podufalski ran the event's fastest shuttle time of 4.19 seconds and Jackson was impressive in drills.
Standout Bulldogs running back Daniel Taylor, who already has several major unofficial scholarship offers, was the Running Backs Co-MVP with Peabody's Jalen Richard. Lutcher wide receiver Dorian Simien was a Wide Receivers Co-MVP along with Donaldsonville's Devon Breaux.
The Linebackers MVP was Sulphur standout Holden Rogers, whose sophomore video was recently featured on PelicanPreps.com.
The Quarterbacks MVP was Teurlings Catholic's D'Shaie Landor, who was fantastic in agility drills and then put on the most impressive passing display in drills and one-on-ones.
The Offensive Line MVP was Beau Chene's Jordy Wyble, who consistently dominated against an impressive collection of defensive linemen. The Defensive Lineman MVP was Justin Woods, who was literally unblockable.
The Strongest Man went to Dutchtown's Aaron Davis, who benched 185 pounds 28 times.

NU HOUSTON TX 8TH and 9TH grade NUC Schuman’s Outstanding Performance List

Colton Wardle McCullough MS, TX 8th S #19 | Wardle took home the 8th grade MVP award after displaying a tremendous upside at the combine. At 5'6 173, Wardle had a 27 inch vertical, 8'1 broad jump and ran a 4.72 shuttle, while showing tremendous ball skills, closing ability and toughness during 1 on 1s. Wardle is worth looking out for. | |
Blake Henningsen Episcopal HS, TX 9th QB #54 | Hemingsen, 6'0 181, won the QB MVP. Hemingson bench pressed 185 lbs 26 times, read the defense well, was accurate and threw a good ball during 1 on 1's. | |
Delshon Waller Thurgood Marshall HS, TX 9th RB #42 | Waller, 5'7148, won the RB MVP. The athletic Waller had an 8'3 broad jump, ran a 4.58 shuttle, 4.73 40 and did a great job during 1 on 1's. His juking ability and good hands make him a dual threat at RB. | |
Austin Bennett Manvel HS, TX 9th WR #36 | Bennett, 5'9 147, won the WR MVP. The 5'9 147 lber was a terrific athlete, with a 30 inch vertical, 9'1 broad jump and 4.41 shuttle run in his arsenal. He also did a great job of leaping up to grab the ball. This is what you call a prototypical star receiver. | |
Larry Sonnier West Orange Stark HS, TX 9th WR #21 | Sonnier came up with the co-WR MVP. The 5'9 136 lber, who comes from the same HS as star NUC alum James Hayes, had very good hands and ran nice routes. | |
Colin Janice West Orange Stark HS, TX 9th S #76 | Janice won the DB MVP after a strong showing on the football field. Janice, 5'8.5 154, ran a 4.47 shuttle, had great feet, hips and supreme confidence during 1 on 1's. Janice is definitely the leader type. | |
Tyree Gray Klein Forest HS, TX 9th LB #59 | Big and powerful at 6'1.5 246, Gray won the LB MVP. Gray had a 29 inch vertical, was explosive during 1 on 1's and had great hands. | |
George Parker Cinco Ranch HS, TX 9th OL#85 | Parker showed his tremendous potential en route to winning OL MVP and the Strongest Man award. A monstrous 6'1 277 lbs, Parker bench pressed 155 lbs 28 times, while using his strength and aggression to power him during the 1 on 1's. | |
Deon Hollins Yates HS, TX 9th DL #64 | Hollins, 5'11.5 198, took home the DL MVP award. Hollins had terrific speed and a great jump during 1 on 1's, making him a menace to opposing linemen. | |
Justin Webster Northland Christian HS, TX 9th RB #16 | One word to describe Webster; WOW! Loaded with talent at 5'11.5 186, Webster won the Combine King and Fastest Man award after demolishing the competition. Webster had a 35 inch vertical, 9'9 broad jump, ran an unbelievable 4.28 shuttle, 4.6 40, bench pressed 135 lbs 23 times and excelled during 1 on 1's. Webster can really do it all and is the kind of player people stop to watch. | |
Jonathan London Yates HS, TX 9th LB #66 | London won the Leadership award after displaying tremendous poise and patience during the combine. London worked non stop on the football field and lead by example. Coaches love guys like this. | |
NUC Miami-Sophomores Star at Cooper City High School!
Ryan Janvion of Dade Christian School topped a group of tremendous Miami area athletes Saturday afternoon at Cooper City HS. Janvion won both the Combine King and Overall MVP (something that is rarely, if ever
done) after putting toegther a stunning performance. Janvion had a 38.5 inch
vertical, 10'4 broad jump, ran a 3.99 shuttle, 4.58 40 and bench pressed 155
lbs 20 times. While his statistics were ballistic, what he did during 1 on 1's

This ridiculously talented 5'10 169 lb running back was a monster during 1 on 1's using his athleticism, quickness, perfectly ran routes and solid hands to simply put him in a league of his own. I can only
imagine the kind of offers he will get in a few years.

University School's Abraham Garcia literally looked like a man amongst boys. Torres, a massive 6'4 339 lb machine, took home the OL MVP and Strongest Man awards while competing with the junios. He bench pressed
185 lb 29 times, had unprecedented quickness for a player his size (he ran 4.9
shuttle), and had tremendous hands, which helped him dominate the opposing
linemen during 1 on 1's. I would be shocked if Garcia didn't end up at a big
time program in the future

Vitually matching Garcia was 6'3 329 lb Danny Isdora of Cypress Bay HS. Isdora was a monster during the 1 on 1's and like Garcia, whom he shared the OL MVP with, had surprising quickness for a player his size.

St. Thomas Aquinas' Joseph McClary, the Fastest Man award winner, looks like he has what it takes to be a star kickoff returner. McCary, who plays for one of the best programs in the country, ran a 4.27
shuttle, 4.51 40 and also had a 9'5 broad jump. Sure he is undersized at 5'6.5

Silmoje Dallaway, 6'0 217 lb LB MVP from Park Vista HS, and Kevis Jones, 6'1.5 195 lb QB MVP were each terrific athletes who gave it their all on the gridiron. Between Jones' accuracy and Dallaway's emergence

TOP PROSPECT ANALYSIS: Lavant Moore, WR, CLASS OF 2010
As part of our new segment on DavidSchuman.com & National Underclassmen Combine System I will will begin analyzing all of the players that I enjoyed watching this year at our events.
Lavant Moore, Class 2010: WR, 6-1.5, 168, Burke HS, NE
Quick Write-up:
Lavant was a relative unknown, when he ended up becoming the #5 receiver at the Top Prospect Camp. He made some amazing catches and arguably the catch of the year with a one handed touchdown catch in 7 on 7, which has already made the www.youtube.com/nucfootball highlight reels. His 4.73 40, 8-10 broad and 30 inch vert are solid, but not overwhelming.
Further Analysis:
He has very good size, solid route running and a unique ability to make big plays in the most important situations. He did it at our top prospect camp as a relative unknown. He was invited out of the NUC Des Moines camp and was very solid there but did not win an award. Against top competition he outshone some more highly touted prospects and mades some amazing catches. His game film is solid, but he can be decptive due to his smooth style of play. He has to improve change of direction, but his football ball skills are top notch. His senior year will dictate whether he goes big time or not. I really like his potential and skills as a receiver and like his height. Out of the state of Nebraska, I think he would be a contributor at a school like nebraska! He is very intriguing!
I dont grade guys based on stars or scores, I rate them on whether they can play!
They get 1-5 points based on how well they perform in each category. 6 categories with a max of 30 points to be scored.

Willie Byrn, Class 2010: WR, 5-10.5, 165, First Colonial HS, VA
Quick Writeup
4.68 40, 9'5 broad, 4.08 shuttle, 32.5 inch vertical at the U100 Camp East, exceptional numbers and athletic ability couples with flat out great hands makes Willie a huge threat to make plays.
Dodie Donnell Award(top football player)-2009 U100 East

Further Analysis:
Willie is a classic example of a guy who has slipped under the radar, each camp he attends he just makes plays and makes catches in 7 on 7 and 1 on '1 reminiscent of Michael Bennett who was at our NUC atlanta was the U100 WR mvp in 2008 southeast, but willie is slimmer and not quite as tall, which is why he goes under the radar. He runs amazing routes, makes big catches and was Michael German's (#2 rated QB at Top Prospect Camp) go to receiver in the 7 on 7 tournament at the Top Prospect Camp. Amazing ability to make big plays, coupled with good speed and nice athleticism, makes him an interesting prospect. Almost every single athlete that has one the Dodie Donnell award has gone onto to D-1a (unless they had grade issues) and Willie should be the same, unfortunately he is getting recognized a little later in the game. He will be a great receiver to wherever he goes to and his smooth ability to get open will continue at the next level.
