Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine hits Prairie View High School this Saturday and Sunday for what has the makings of an unforgettable weekend. Many talented athletes are projected to attend the combine with hopes of impressing the higher powers at the next level. Based on last year's standouts, this camp looks to be worth the price of admission.
Rising senior Matt Hegarty dominated the competition last year, earning the Sophomore Overall MVP award. The 6'5 265 lb phenom was in a league of his own during the 1 on 1's, physically overpowering the opposing linemen. Less than one month ago, Hegarty committed to Notre Dame, turning down 20 plus offers from schools such as USC, Florida State, Oklahoma, Texas and Stanford amongst others.
2009 Junior QB MVP Trevor Olson set the tone at last year's event, dominating throughout the 1 on 1's. The 6'5.5 195 lb Olson put his tremendous size, great arm, good footwork and nice release point on display just one year ago, leaving the event with an array of confidence. Olson's size and skills made him a well targeted prospect.
Fellow 09' standout Valonte Riley, 5'8 180, also generated interest after displaying his tremendous athleticism at last year's combine. Riley, the Overall MVP, can play multiple positions, thus looks to be a valuable asset wherever he ends up playing.
"The kids in the Denver region love football", stated David Schuman, NUC CEO & President. "We had a better than expected turn out last year and with a rapid rise in registrations this season, I see no reason why 2010 won't be the best in history."
Current 8th/9th graders are slated to compete at 8 am and sophomores are scheduled to hit the field at 1 pm on Saturday, while juniors take center stage 1 pm Sunday.
All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions. In addition to the elite athletes receiving coverage on Rivals and Espn.com, statistics of every participant will be sent out to colleges at all three levels.
Athletes can sign up for the Denver combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
