A tremendous weekend of football it will be when the NUC returns to Minnesota this Saturday and Sunday for what looks to be an outstanding combine at Burnsville HS. Athletes from all walks of life and beyond state borders are expected to attend, as those who standout could earn themselves a division 1 scholarship.
"The athletes from the Minnesota area are always fired up for the combine", said NUC CEO & President David Schuman. "Football is a very big out there and we have seen a number of tremendous players here in the past."
One of those players was Stanford bound linebacker A.J. Tarpley, who was an elite player at the 08 combine. The 6'1 215 lb Tarpley's potential was evident from his sophomore year and he was selected as Gatorade's Player of the Year in 09 after leading Wayzata to a tremendous season.
Iowa State incoming freshman Tom Farniok was the best of the 09' combine class and trekked down from South Dakota to display his impressive skills. The 6'3 260 lb offensive lineman was one of the top rated players in his state and signed his LOI four months after attending the combine.
"Tarpley and Farniok were two of the better players from the Minnesota region", said Schuman. "Both displayed D1 potential from the moment the stepped on the field. Tarpley came on strong in 08' and Fairnoik came through our program the next year, so I definitely have big expectations coming into this weekend!"
All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions. In addition to the elite athletes receiving coverage on Rivals and Espn.com, statistics of every participant will be sent out to colleges at all three levels.
Current 8th/9th graders are slated to compete at 8 am and sophomores are set to hit the field at 1 pm on Saturday, while juniors look to make a strong impression this Sunday at 1 pm.
Athletes can sign up for the Minneapolis combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
