2009 Junior Overall MVP Malcolm Johnson (Northridge HS) dominated throughout his session both athletically and during the 1 on 1's. The 6'1 200 lb nationally rated receiver is headed to Mississippi State on a full ride.
6'4 220 lb dual-threat QB Arsenio Favor, easily the top QB of last year's combine, is bringing his talents to Southern Mississippi in the fall. Favor has terrific quickness for a player his size (running a 4.6 shuttle) in addition to having a good arm and solid mechanics.
Madison Academy's Jordan Matthews was an exceptional athlete and joins Vanderbilt's football program as an incoming freshman this fall. The 6'3 193 lb Matthews has a 33.5 inch vertical, 10'3 broad jump, runs a 4.44 shuttle and has very good hands. Athletically, there are few like him.
Midfield HS is familiar with successful combine athletes as well, since their star receiver Jamarious Crusoe (an 09' alum) is attending UAB this fall. Crusoe has good skills and is athletic at 6'0 181.
Other 09' alums with D1 interest include Terrance Slaughter, Jonathan Sites and Corey Lampely.
"Alabama is definitely one of the football hot spots right now", said NUC CEO & President David Schuman. "Their talent has always been good, but U of A's overall success really brings the state's expectations to a whole new level".
Current 8th/9th graders are slated to compete at 8 am and sophomores are scheduled to grind it out on the gridiron 1 pm on Saturday. Juniors look to jumpstart their future 1 pm this Sunday, April 18.
All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions.
Athletes can sign up for the Birmingham combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
