The Rice Owls landed their second commit for the Class of 2011 today when Cedar Park Offensive Tackle Matt Wofford gave a verbal commitment to Head Coach David Bailiff while on the Rice Campus.

Wofford has known since March he wanted to be an Owl. |
Wofford joins Strake Jesuit Defensive End Michael Sam as current pledges for the 2011 Class.
Wofford chose Rice over the University of Houston, SMU, Kansas, and North Texas.
While the class is small in numbers at this stage, it's huge in talent - and in Wofford's case huge is the perfect descriptive. Wofford stands 6-7, and weighs 313 pounds.
Big Matt told us his decision was made final today, but wasn't something that just came about.
"I've known I would be coming to Rice since Junior Day back in March. It's just the perfect fit for me."
Wofford gave us more details about his decision.
"Education was always #1 for me and I was hoping to be able to stay in Texas. Rice is the best education in Texas hands down. I also wanted to go to a smaller school - so I loved the campus and the smaller student body when I first saw it. On top of all that I love the coaches at Rice, especially Coach Reagan. I've known him for a long time, since he was at Kansas. They're all great guys and I think they'll do a great job of getting me prepared to play my best."
Wofford says he is fully recovered from a leg injury that kept him out of spring practice. He's also dropped about 10 pounds since January.
"I feel a lot lighter and quicker. I go back to the doctor Monday and then will take about a week off before I hit speed and strength training hard for the summer."
One thing Wofford won't have to worry about is getting past college entrance requirements. He carries a 4.7 grade-point average (5.0 scale) and has scored a 1320 on the math and verbal portion of his SAT exam.
Obviously an excellent student, Wofford will study business in the classroom at Rice. On the field he doesn't care where Owl coaches put him. He feels he's astute enough to learn any position.
"As far as where I'll line up I think I can play just about anywhere on the line. I play Right Tackle now but I'm think I'm a technical enough player to be able to pick up any position on the line."
