Interview With Columbia Freshman Combine King Josh Mercer!

Coach Schuman: What did you do to prepare for the National Underclassmen Combine?
Josh Mercer: What I did to prepare for the combine is continue to lift weights to get stronger and faster and stay in shape so I wouldn't get tired.

Coach Schuman: Have you been to the NUC before? How did you do? What were your expectations going into this years event?
Josh Mercer: No, I haven't been to the National Underclassmen Combine before but I have been to different ones. I pretty much knew everything we were going to run through so I just stayed focus and positive.

Coach Schuman: You were MVP! What are your goals now?
Josh Mercer:  My goals now are to continue to get better everyday mentally and physically.

Coach Schuman: How did you hear about the National Underclassmen Combine and what was your favorite part about the event?
Josh Mercer:  How I heard about the combine was that my dad had been looking on the Internet for combines and when he found this one he told me about it. My favorite part of the event was just being out there having fun and doing my best.

Coach Schuman: If you can choose 5 schools where you would be interested in playing what would they be?
Josh Mercer: The schools I would choose would be Florida, USC Trojans, Georgia, Miami, and Auburn.

Coach Schuman: What do you like about high school football? What are your goals for your team and yourself?
Josh Mercer: What I like about high school football is that it's exciting and fun. My goal for my football career at high school is to be the best I can be. My goals for the team is for us to compete because we're not the biggest team or the most athletic, but we do have heart and we believe that we can go all the way.

Coach Schuman: Do you play other sports? Tell me about your accomplishments?
Josh Mercer: Yes, I do play other sports. I play basketball and run track. My accomplishments in track are great! I'm the fastest freshman in the state of Georgia in the 100m dash with a time of 10.99. You can check out more of my results at gatfxc.com

Coach Schuman: What is your favorite thing about football? What makes it a great sport to you?
Josh Mercer: My favorite thing about football is walking off the field knowing that I gave my best even if we won or lost the game.

Coach Schuman: Tell me about your training regimen...How do you get better every day?
Josh Mercer:  My training regimen is quite simple. I have a weight class in the mornings and I lift four times a week. Then in the afternoon I have track practice where we do a lot of running and speed workouts. How I get better everyday is that I stay positive and listen to the advice that my dad and my coaches give me that can make me better.

Coach Schuman: What are you looking for in a college? Academically? football?
Josh Mercer. What I'm looking for in a college is that everybody is friendly and that the school has a good reputation. What I'm looking for academically is that I want to be a coach so I'm probably going to study physical education. What I'm looking for in football is that the team is good and loves the game of football. Also has a good fan base because that plays a huge factor.
