Midfield High School was the play to be last Saturday morning for top notch freshman. Players from all over ventured to stake their claim as an elite talent and after a grueling combine session, some top notch prospects reigned supreme.
Jamer Cox won the Overall MVP award and with this awesome group of athletes, he really had to earn it.. The 5'11.5 174 lb Cox had an 8'10 broad jump, ran a 4.42 shuttle and was near flawless during 1 on 1's. Cox ran outstanding routes, has hands like a pro, good moves and consistently beat the DB's to the spot.
O'Terrius Howard (Autauga) brought home the WR MVP. Big and powerful at 6'4 203, Howard had an 8'9 broad jump, bench pressed 135 lbs 24 times, had awesome ball skills and played physical. He definitely has the tools to become an elite receiver.
Muscle Shoals' Tyler "Mr. Action" Jackson is the definition of a gifted athlete. Jackson was crowned Combine King and also won the Fastest Man award with a 9'7 broad jump, 4.30 shuttle run, 4.54 40 and 33 inch vertical. It's quite rare that you will find an athlete this good as a freshman.
Finesse Middleton (Gasden City) was an elite d-lineman. The 5'11 253 lb powerhouse bench pressed 155 lbs 22 times, had tremendous hands, solid speed and played viciously during the 1 on 1's. His width and - for lack of a better words - finesse made him a shining star.
When the aforementioned athletes further develop, expect to see them making a bigger splash than a fat man in a small pool.
