Springville HS' E.J. Woody was one of the few who could claim to be the sole beneficiary of an award, the Overall MVP. Woody, 5'11.5 179, had a 30.5 inch vertical, 8'6 broad jump, ran a 4.22 shuttle and did it all during 1 on 1's. Between his nicely ran routes, excellent hands and understanding of the game, Woody must be considered an on the radar prospect.
Positions too good to give just one award out included :
QB: Austin Smitherman (Morgan Academy) and Trey Fethner (Woodlands). Both threw a good ball and were quite agile for QB's.
LB: Taylor Morton (Bibb County) and Darzil Washington (West St. John). The duo each had terrific strength, quick feet and a go hard or go home attitude.
RB: Steven Stewart (Hamilton) and Cedric Brooks (Midfield. Both rising seniors were good athletes (Brooks had a 30 inch vertical, 8'6 broad jump and 4.43 shuttle run, while Stewart ran a 4.50 shuttle and jumped 9'2 in the broad) and ran hard during the individual period, making it far too difficult to pick just one of them to claim the RB MVP award.
DL: Jeremy Pyles (Oxford) and Emmanuel Cooper (Spain Park) each had good size and impressive athleticism for big men. During the one on ones' , both had tremendous success
OL: Taylor Warner (Jacksonville) and Cedric Kirkman (Tuscaloosa County). With good technique, an understanding of how to shut out d-linemen and big bodies, the two top tier rising seniors made a great impression.
These kids may have been too good for their own good!
