Midfield HS played hosted an impressive Sophomore combine last Saturday afternoon in the ultra talented Deep South region.
Breyon Deberry (Handley) won the session's Overall MVP honors. The 5'7.5 183 lb RB was skilled and athletic, running up the stat sheets while also dominating the 1 on 1's. He had an NBA like 10'1 broad jump, 32.5 inch vertical, ran a 4.29 shuttle, bench pressed 155 lbs 28 times and dropped spectators' jaws during the individual period.
Chester "Goin' Deep" Rogers has all the tools to be a big time receiver. The 5'10 153 lb sensation had a 31 inch vertical, 9'1.5 broad jump, ran a 4.24 shuttle, displayed tremendous hands and blew by defenders whenever he wanted to en route to winning the WR MVP. There is a lot to like here.
John Mwaituka (Thompson) muscled his way through the grueling and competitive combine, bringing home a deserved RB MVP award. At 5'9 178, he had a 9'1 broad jump, ran a 4.40 shuttle, bench pressed 155 lbs 17 times and put on a show during the 1 on 1's.
Brandon Sumpter of Gadsen City HS was Mr. anti-offense. He batted down passes, challenged the WR's every play and was a ball hawk throughout the event. The 5'6.5 139 lb corner back won the DB MVP award after his good all around performance, which also saw him run a 4.4 40 and jump 30 inches on the vertical leap.
There is definitely a lot to like in the camp!
