Bukoski, Tabuyo Shine at Inaugural National Underclassmen Combine in Hawaii

Bukoski, Tabuyo Shine at Inaugural National Underclassmen Combine in Hawaii

2/21/10

Honolulu, HI – Aloha Stadium was the site of the inaugural National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) in Hawaii.  The NUC allows high school football players to compete against other athletes, their age, in a series of combine events: 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, and the shuttle run.  Football skills are also evaluated during position specific drills and one-on-one competition.  Athletes and parents are also given presentations by a representative from the National Collegiate Scouting Association (www.NCSASports.org) about the college recruiting process.

The morning session included 8th and 9th graders.  The overall MVP was Jeremy Tabuyo, WR-St. Louis HS.  Tabuyo dominated during the one-on-one drills, making some spectacular catches.  He also was the “Fastest Man” running a 4.51 forty yard dash.  Smooth, was the way coaches described Tabuyo and with continued effort, college football should be in his future.  Our 8th grade and LB MVP was Jacob Lacaden.  He ran a 4.91 forty and benched 135 lbs 15 times.  Lacaden made some excellent plays during football drills and was a leader throughout the combine.  The Lineman MVP was Reeve Koehler, St. Louis HS.  Koehler, already 6’3” / 279 lbs as a freshman, looked like a man amongst boys.  He benched 155 lbs 28 times and had a 29 inch vertical jump.  Expect to see Koehler playing at the collegiate level one day.

The afternoon session was for 10th and 11th graders.  Duke Bukoski, WR-St. Louis HS, was the Overall MVP.  Bukoski ran a 4.60 forty yard dash, vertical jumped 35.5 inches, and had a 4.31 shuttle run time.  He was making all the plays during the one-on-ones and can really be a special player one day.  Marcus Mariota, QB MVP, and “Fastest Man” ran a 4.48 forty yard dash and showed his arm strength and accuracy during the football drills.  With added consistency Mariota should have an opportunity to play college football.  Juda Parker, OL/DL-Word of Life Academy, has a bright future ahead of him.  He has great footwork and is explosive coming off the ball, to go along with his 6’2” / 238 lb frame.  Parker benched 185 lbs 14 times, had a 25 inch vertical jump, a 4.52 shuttle run time, and a 5.08 forty.

The NUC would like to give a big mahalo to Mr. David Cosier Jr., Hawaiian strength and conditioning coach, without his help the event would not have been possible.  For more information on the NUC and full-results from the combine, please visit www.nationalunderclassmen.com.
