The always popular Austin "Friday Night Lights" combine returns at Huston Tilloston University this Friday and Saturday for what looks to have the makings of an event to remember.
Unlike the regular combines, The "Friday Night Lights" event takes place at 3 and 8 pm respectively, giving athletes the opportunity to literally shine under the bright lights and move onto the next level.
Cy Woods' Jonathan Gross set the tone at last year's junior combine with an all around dominant performance. The 6'0 160 lb Gross stamped his ticket to success, running a 4.21 shuttle, 4.42 40, jumping 34 inches on the vertical leap and 8'11 on the broad jump.
MacArthur's Angel Lopez also put the bar sky high coming into this event, earning the RB MVP en route to honing his talents at the coveted Top Prospect Camp.
"Texas has a rich football history and since Austin is our last area event of the year, kids always bring their A game", said NUC CEO & President David Schuman.
Playing at an A level is status quo for making the Ultimate 100 Camp, thus those who are serious about taking their talents to the next level must put forth a tremendous effort to see where they place among the combine's best.
All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions. In addition to the elite athletes receiving coverage on Rivals and Espn.com, statistics of every participant will be sent out to colleges at all three levels.
As part of the special "Friday Night Lights" schedule, current 9th graders compete at 3 pm and sophomores hit the field 8 pm Friday June 4. Juniors have their chance to shine 8 pm on Saturday.
"My expectations are high and this weekend should produce another top tier talent" continued Schuman. "I will quite honestly be disappointed if this event doesn't end the combine season in style."
Athletes can sign up for the Austin combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
