A talented group of athletes put forth a tremendous performance last weekend at the Long Island Indoor Sports arena, showing that the New York area's football talent is far better than perceived.
The superstar of the weekend was Archbishops Stepinac QB Tyler Goodman. At 6'1.5 206, Goodman had many advantages both physically and as a pure football player. The talented rising senior has great athleticism for a QB, as few at his position can claim a 31.5 inch vertical, 9'4 broad jump and 4.53 shuttle run.
During the 1 on 1's Goodman was all around solid, throwing the ball accurately, displaying good footwork and impressive patience for a high schooler. He has great tools and another year of high school football will only help him make it to the next level.
Mark Thomas (Thomas Jefferson) is a talented receiver with a boatload of potential. The 5'11.5 183 lb Thomas starred during the testing with a 29.5 inch vertical, 9'1 broad jump, 4.48 shuttle run and 4.56 40 to boot. During the individual period, Thomas displayed tremendous hands, was explosive off the ball and consistently beat the defensive backs off of the line. As an all around wideout, Thomas has the looks of a star.
Standout Underclassmen Make Waves!
· Sophomore Overall/WR MVP Dajon Diton of Thomas Jefferson topped the sophomore session with an all around dominant day. The 6'1 170 lb Diton had a 30 inch vertical along with a 9'1 broad jump, giving him the ability to leap above the DB's during 1 on 1's. Diton has terrific hands, runs crisp, clean routes and positions his body in a way that makes it difficult for defenders to interfere when the ball comes in his direction.
· Jabari "Downtown" Brown (Brentwood) put on a clinic during the sophomore linebacker session, earning himself the MVP at his position. Brown is strong at 5'10.5 189, bench pressing 155 lbs 20 times, while displaying solid aggression during the 1 on 1's. He also had a 31.5 inch vertical, 8'7 broad jump and was solid with his coverage.
· Freshman MVP Thomas Kellecher (St. Anthony's) has the looks of a special player. At 5'11 156, the gifted running back had a 30 inch vertical, 8'10 broad jump, ran a 4.34 shuttle, putting him atop the charts testing wise. Kellecher is also light on his feet and changes directions exceptionally well for a first year high schooler.
