The 5'11 194 lb Hutton had a 32 inch vertical, 9'2broad jump, ran a 4.47 shuttle and bench pressed 185 lbs 20 times during the testing. While competing in the 1 on 1's, the standout linebacker truly did it all. He was fast, strong, physical, light on his feet and looks to be a big time run stopping machine.
Monster o-linemen Kevin Haston (5'11.5 2176, Southeastern HS) and Zachary Lowe (6'0.5 287, Warren Township) shared the OL MVP award. The dangerous duo had great footwork, solid technique, good lower body strength and each bench pressed 185 lbs more than 20 times.
Across the line was Martin Luther King HS' DeMarcus Murray, a 6'1 238 standout athlete who won the DL MVP. Murray's speed is exceptional for a player at his position. He has a great motor, tremendous attitude and bench pressed 185 lbs 19 times. His moves are terrific as well.
Franco-Cite's Randy Ouaton came down from Canada and returned with the DB MVP award. The 5'10.5 164 lb prospect proved that football is no joke in his homeland, as his 30 inch vertical, 8'6 broad jump and 4.42 shuttle run put him amongst the elite. During the 1 on 1's, he had great instincts, changed direction well and smothered the wide receivers. He serves as an example of how good players can truly come from anywhere.
Standout Sophomores!
Saginaw Mill's Roland Rance was the best among the class of 2012 participants. The 5'11.5 168 lb wideout is a gifted athlete and had great position skills. The rising junior had a 32 inch vertical, 9'6 broad jump and ran a 4.41 shuttle, placing him amongst the best in all three events. During the individual period, Rance showcased his tremendous hands, ran nice routes and got open whenever he wanted to. QBs dream of receivers like this.
David Perkins (Kalamazoo Central) was atop the food chain after winning the Combine King and WR MVP awards. He had a 31 inch vertical, 10'0 broad jump, ran a 4.54 40, bench pressed 155 lbs 25 times and needed just 4.43 seconds to complete his shuttle run. Perkins also staked his claim amongst the elite during 1 on 1's, running terrific routes, making a number of good catches and using 6'1 198 lb frame to his advantage.
Xavier Stallworth (Detroit Jesuit) scaled in at 6'1 312 lbs and could have called it a day after that. Good thing he decided to show his talents because this kid can really play! He was in a league of his own during 1 on 1's, using his exceptional strength and technique to shut down the opposing linemen. Few can match up with him size wise and he definitely has the skills to pay the bills.
Fast and Furious Freshman!
De La Salle QB Shane Morris is graduating high school in 2013 but at the combine, he was in a class of his own. The 6'1.5 174 lb QB has a sensational arm, great vision, moves his feet well and carries himself like a pro. Talent wise, he is far beyond his age group and already has top notch abilities. When the awards were announced, few doubted who would be taking home the Overall MVP.
Jonathon Reschke (Brother Rice) was amongst the top juniors and few questioned what he could do after seeing him perform. They missed out on perhaps the most impressive part of this rising star's performance; he is two grades younger than the athletes he competed with. Reschke earned the LB MVP award by starring during the 1 on 1's bench pressing 135 lbs 26 times, running a 4.30 shuttle and jumping 32 inches on the vertical leap.
Whether he was confident enough to move up and compete with the older kids or there was some kind of conflict that made him have to change sessions, Reschke made the right move and is worth keeping an eye on.
Derek Brown (Yale) Is 6'2.5 270 lbs.. AS AN 8TH GRADER! His size is outstanding but his talent is even better, as he ran the show during the 1 on 1's with his quick hands and solid technique en route to claiming the 8th Grade and OL MVP awards. Impressive to say the least! Expect to see him on varsity next year.
