Jones HS played host to a tremendous group of athletes last Saturday and Sunday, starting with the young and hungry freshman class.
West Orange's Marcell Harris reigned supreme following the five hour combine, taking home the Overall MVP award. The 6'1.5 186 lb safety had a 30.5 inch vertical, 9'2 broad jump, ran a 4.40 shuttle and bench pressed 135 lbs 20 times, making him an elite tester. More importantly, Harris locked down the receivers during the individual period and made the QB's think twice before tossing the ball in his direction.
Myles Gaines (Latwon Chiles) and Justin Henry (Jones) shared the WR MVP honors. The duo had good hands, nice quickness and ran tight routes, taking the 1 on 1's by storm.
Oviedo's Alton Meeks on the other hand has awesome size for a frosh. The 6'1 216 lb QB bench pressed 135 lbs and used his height to his advantage during 1 on 1's, making solid reads and putting his strong arm on display en route to winning the QB MVP.
Tre Hamilton (Jones) is a wide body on the line. At 5'10 245, Hamliton had an 8'3 broad jump, bench pressed 155 lbs 22 times and worked his butt off during the 1 on 1's. His performance earned him the DL MVP.
Dwayne Williams (Mulberry) is the definition of a man child. Even though he is still one year away from becoming a high schooler, Williams scaled in at 6'1.5 276 and bench pressed 135 lbs 26 times. He starred during 1 on 1's and I can only imagine the kind of player he will become in the next few years. Scary quite honestly.
Dominique Brown (North Marion) is nowhere near as big as Williams, but he has world class athleticism. Brown, who is also in 8th grade, had a 30.5 inch vertical, 9'2 broad jump, ran a 4.68 and was an elite running back during 1 on 1's. In winning the 8th Grade MVP and Combine King, he is clearly an elite 8th grader.
Master Bracey (Trinity Catholic) had a fitting name as a he was atop the charts of thus ultra talented combine. The 5'6.5 150 lb Bracey had a 28.5 inch vertical, 9'2 broad jump, ran a 4.21 shuttle, bench pressed 135 lbs 18 times and was a standout during the individual period.
The Orlando freshman session was definitely one for the history books.
