2013 NUC Team Recruiting Rankings
As of January, 23, 2013
With signing day less than two weeks away the National Underclassmen would like to unveil its current team recruiting rankings. Michigan currently has a very slim lead on Texas A&M. The top five rounds out with USC at number three followed by Notre Dame then Ohio State. We will update date the team recruiting rankings next week then again on signing day.
Each player that is rated in their respective Regional Ranking is worth one point. If that player is also in the NUC Ultimate175 they gain an additional half point. All players in the NUC JUCO Top 30 have a value of a half a point towards their respective signing day schools team ranking. The college with the highest total number of recruiting points will be crowned the 2013 NUC Recruiting Kings.
If two colleges are tied with the same total of recruiting points then the first tie breaker is the school with the most NUC Ultimate175 players. The second tie breaker will be the school with the most regionally ranked players. After that both schools will be considered tied.
A lot can happen between now and signing day as there are approximately 50 players left uncommitted that can affect NUC Team Recruiting Rankings. Then you have players that are currently committed that will have a change of heart prior to signing day. Hope you enjoy the next two weeks and good luck to your favorite college team!

Joe Vitiello is a Junior DE/TE out of Immaculata High School in New Jersey with an NFL-sized frame and a knack for the game of football.  His team plays in the Watchung Division of the Midwest 38 Conference in New Jersey.  He established himself as an All-Conference defensive end this past season. His combination of strength, speed, and size are essential for excellence at his defensive end/tight end position.  He is already receiving interest from several Division-I schools, and has been multiple Junior Day invites.

At defensive end, Joe is practically indefensible.  He finished the season with over 70 tackles and 4 sacks.  He commands the attention of an opposing offensive line, commonly receiving the attention of two offensive linemen.  His strength helps push people around and his speed allows him to get off the edge quicker than most defensive ends of his size.  He has great footwork and continuously churns his feet allowing himself to conserve his momentum and get the tackle when the ball carrier is nearby.

On offense, Joe is a vacuum for thrown footballs.  He's the largest target on the field, getting off the line of scrimmage quicker than you would expect for an athlete of his stature.  He makes a 25 yard fade route look easy with excellent on field awareness and superb concentration.  He is fully capable of one-handed catches, seemingly without difficulty, due to his large hands.  He is excellent in the seam, cutting sharply to create a lot of space to make the catch.  He is also a powerful run-blocking tight end and pushes the defense backwards on a regular basis.

Joe's size makes him stand out immediately against those in his class at his position and should draw the attention of recruiters.  When they come watch him play, they should be able to notice that he is the real deal and has a perseverant attitude.  With a strong senior season, Joe should be able to acquire interest from other D-I schools and play big-time college football.

Newell plays with a great motor and has a tremendous bull rush.
Newell led his Hiawatha team to an 8-3 record and a berth in the state playoffs. As a junior, he led his team in sacks with 10.
Here is a link to his highlight tape:
Steven Barsamian NUC: How did your season go?
Peyton Newell: The season went very well this year. We were picked last in the league and we ended up tied for second in one of the top leagues in the state of Kansas. Overall we were 8-3 and we won a playoff for the first time in eleven years. This definitely shows the direction our where our program is going. So overall it was a really great season.
NUC: How did your team improve so much from last season to have this much success?
PN: We had a lot of leadership this year. Actually the junior class was a dominant class for us. Our class showed a lot of leadership. Five out of the six captains were actually juniors this year, including me. We had a goal as a team starting in the first weight room session in the summer to start executing well throughout the year.
NUC: What would you say your strengths are as a player?
PN: I definitely think my greatest strength is playing to the whistle and always pursuing and hustling to the ball. I definitely think my hustle carries over to my teammates as well. I play with  110% and I give it my all every play.
NUC: So what do you think you need to improve on for next season?
PN: Definitely I need to build more strength. That's something you can always improve on. Another thing is to become more of a student of the game. I want to prepare more during film next year.
NUC: What are goals for next season for your team?
PN: Next year is going to be my senior year and your senior year is always the biggest year. So far I'm really excited for it. One of my goals is to make it into the playoffs and go farther than we did this year.
NUC: So what are your individual goals for next season?
PN: I definitely want to get All State again. And I want to try to get more national awards next season. As far as statistics, I want to try to get 15 sacks next year. I got ten this year.
NUC: So which of the positions do you like better DE or TE?
PN: Definitely D-end.
NUC: What is it about defensive end that you like better then tight end?
PN: On defense you have a lot less to worry about. You have one job and if you do your one job your team will be successful and so will you.
NUC: Alright some personal questions. What is your favorite TV show?
PN: Duck Dynasty
NUC: What is your favorite sport to play besides football?
PN: I have to say basketball
NUC: Favorite food to eat?
PN: Anything Chinese
NUC: Favorite type of candy?
PN: I have to say skittles
NUC: Favorite type of car?
PN: Hummer
NUC: So on to recruiting. I believe you have 22 offers, correct?
PN: yes
NUC: Any schools standing out right now?
PN: No. I have been trying to narrow it down but it's so hard to do. Each school has different things to offer. And I want to see what each school has to offer before I narrow down my choices.
NUC: Do you have any visits planned for the near future?
PN: As of now January 22nd we are going to visit Nebraska. And then in the first weekend in February we are flying out to South Carolina. Those are the only plans as of now.
NUC: What do you like about Nebraska?
PN: Definitely the atmosphere. I definitely like the tradition. And the facilities there are the best that they can possibly be. The coaching staff really treats me well and they know how to coach.
NUC: What do you like about South Carolina?
PN: That's kind of why we are going out there to see what they have to offer. I really like what they have done with their D-linemen the past few years. It's cool that the number one player goes there (Jadeveon Clowney).
NUC: Ok I'm going to ask about the home state schools. What do you like about Kansas?
PN: KU has always been that team that I grew up with. There is nothing like KU basketball. All my family members on my mom's side besides maybe one have all gone to KU. Both my mom and dad have gone to KU. But that definitely doesn't have any effect on if I go there or not.
NUC: What do you like about Kansas State?
PN: Kansas State is my hometown's college team. I would say of the 4,000 people in the town, 90% of them are K-State fans. A lot of us go there every weekend for gameday, so it definitely feels like home there.
NUC: What do you think about Missouri?
PN:  The coaching staff there is treating me really well. I definitely like the facilities. I know a few of the players on the team as well.
NUC: Does being close to home matter for you?
PN: No not really. It doesn't bother me to far from home.
NUC: What would your factors be on deciding on a school?
PN: I am definitely high on academics. I have a 3.96 GPA. I definitely want to see where football career can go but also my academic career as well. Academics are my number one thing. Also a place with good tradition and definitely a place where the players are happy to go there. You can tell that the players want to be there and they are glad to be a part of the team.
NUC: Do you plan on doing any NUC camps in the spring or summer?
PN: I'm not really sure yet. If we did it would be the one in Kansas City. That's usually the first week of May. If I'm not doing it, I'm sure a lot of my friends will be participating in it so I'll probably be there.
NUC: What is your impression of the NUC combines?
PN: Definitely the competition is really good there. As far as NUC as a whole they have really helped me out with recruiting. Actually my freshmen year I had really good numbers and a lot of coaches didn't believe it, so I know several coaches who went to the NUC site and saw them. So NUC definitely had a huge pull on me as far as recruiting.   It did a lot for me.
NUC: Ok last question. Do you have any idea on when you plan on announcing your college decision?
PN: The earliest will probably be the end of the summer or the beginning of football season.
