One only needs to drive 15 miles north of Charlotte on I-77 to find two of the youngest football stars in the country. Robert and Aapri Washington, cousins by blood monsters on the gridiron, are already attracting national attention at Southlake Christian Academy. Robert is in the class of 2016 and has already completed in his first year of varsity football. Aapri is in the class of 2017 and has received several national honors.
This Sunday at 1pm both will be taking part at the NUC Carolinas Five-Star Showcase in Myrtle Beach, SC. There they plan on competing against some of the top rising juniors and seniors from the area. This is an event that football pundits should not miss! It will be a treat to watch these young gladiators showcase their football acumen.
Robert Washington already has BCS offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss with strong interest from Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, West Virginia, Michigan, UCLA, Texas, Texas A&M and Alabama. This past season he ran for 1,017 yards on just 89 carries scoring 11 times. He also had ten catches for 141 yards while recording 21 tackles.
Washington was named the NUC Offensive Freshman of the Year at National Underclassmen All-Star Classic this past December. Robert has also participated on Team USA U16 team. After his spectacular freshman season he was honored by MaxPreps.com as a Freshman First Team All-American.
He blends a great combination of speed and wiggle to bounce plays to the outside. Once outside the tackle box his ability to make linebackers miss is a thing of beauty. His homerun speed makes him a threat to score from any part on the field. These qualities are what earned him an invite to the Five-Star Showcase to compete against older players. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glv1iHrc9I0
Aapri Washington is already receiving strong interest from Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Ohio. This past season he accounted for over 2,500 all-purpose yards while recording 60 tackles and eight picks on defense. This versatile player already projects as a legitimate BCS level cover corner.
This past December he was honored as the NUC Youth Offensive Player of the Year. In the NUC All-Star Classic he earned the Offensive Player of the Game. Washington was the youngest starter on Team USA U15 team. He is currently ranked #2 in North Carolina in the 100 & 200-Meters for his age group.
What really stands out about this young gun is his ability to attack the ball with his hands. You also have to love his affinity for contact, as he is not afraid to come up in run support to make the tackle. It will be a treat for all watching someone from the Class of 2017 compete against players three and four years older. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0_anuMSwfg&list=UUthfJzz7a2jYJdGn2GIPccQ&index=1
