NUC North South Senior All-Star Game Top Performers &
Underclassmen Camp Top Performers
Thursday
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina- On the third day of the NUC North South Senior All-Star practice both teams had a chance to go head to head getting a feel for what each team had to offer in the upcoming game. They competed in pass skeleton, inside drill, one-on-ones, and 11 on 11. NUC National Analyst Barry Every was on hand for most of the hard hitting action. Below are the seniors that stood out on this day.
The underclassmen took part in a camp that consisted of pass skeleton and one-on-ones. The juniors competed amongst themselves and the freshmen and sophomores worked in unison. Below are also some of the top underclassmen that caught the watchful eye of the NUC staff.
2013
Devontae Chatman, 6-3/230, DE/LB, Caroline, VA
Chatman made his mark during inside drill. This tall lean stem-winder spent much of his time stuffing the run in the backfield. Chatman caused at least one fumble and demonstrated excellent lateral movement sliding down the line to make plays. This past season he accumulated 58 tackles and nine sacks. It's really hard to believe that he has no offers at any level at this time. College coaches looking for a hybrid DE/LB that looks great on the hoof need to research this athlete.
Austin Fister, 6-4/245, DE/LB, Wando, SC
Fister was the most disruptive defensive player for the South squad on Thursday. This tall lean hybrid DE/LB was in the backfield during inside drill on more than one occasion. He also proved to be a real hustler running downfield on plays that happened to break loose on the opposite side. He has long arms and excellent length for the position. Fister is quick off the ball and athletic enough to catch plays from behind. Right now he claims offers from DII Newberry and Wingate with strong interest from IAA power Wofford. I have little doubt that he could play major FCS level football at the likes for North Dakota State or Montana State.
Nate Pryor, 5-10/175, RB, Sebastian River, FL
Wow! This kid has that extra gear and ability to cut back across the grain and make linebackers whiff as he speeds into the secondary. Pryor was not afraid to stick it between the tackles using superior vision to find that sliver of space to scoot between. Once past the initial line of defense he was just too fast for the linebackers to chase down. At this time Pryor has a dozen offers mostly at the DI level. Some of those schools are Cincinnati, FAU, FIU, and Marshall. His skill set surely lends itself to being a kick returner. The other thing that surprised me about this all-purpose back is the fact that he looks bigger in person than he does on film. This past year he had 860 yards and nine scores on just 97 touches.
Dubois Ross, 6-0/180, WR, Liberty HS, PA
I normally look to find different top performers from day to day, but Ross was such a dominate player for the second consecutive day he needed to be mentioned again. He proved to be impossible for the defensive backs to cover one-on-one. Ross is quick off the ball using superior lateral quickness to side step defensive backs in tight man coverage. His strides are long and elegant allowing him to get behind defenders at will. He then proved to have the hands and body control to bring in passes thrown over either shoulder. Not only is he a deep threat but dangerous on short passes in space. Ross is currently a Buffalo commit but he clearly has BCS level ability. He is head and shoulders above the other skilled position players at this NUC event.
Allen Hall, 5-10/180, DB, St. Vincent Palotti, MD
Hall has excellent overall size and is very physical at the point of attack. He has above average speed and the hip swivel to turn and run stride for stride with receivers. He made several nice pass break-ups on this day using his long arms and athletic ability to keep the receiver from making plays on the ball. On the season he was in on 70 tackles and ran for 647 yards as a part-time running back. He is currently receiving strong interest from Marshall, NC A&T, NCCU, and Towson.

2014
Tobe Ezeokoli, 5-11/180, DB, San Diego-Mt. Carmel HS, CA
Ezeokoli switched over to his natural position on Thursday which is cornerback. He uses his long arms and superior balance to reroute receivers off their intended patterns. Once the receiver finally releases he is able to turn his hips and run stride for stride with the receiver. He was seldom in a bad position enabling him to knock down several passes throughout the day. This guy has the size and skill set to become a big-time DI prospect. His size also lends itself to helping out in run support.
Kahlil Mitchell, 5-11/175, RB/DB, South Pittsburg, TN
Mitchell worked out at several positions on this day. He proved to be a dominate running back, receiver, and corner back. He is patient as a runner and has that second gear that allows him to explode through the hole. As a receiver he is quick off the snap and possesses the body control to make circus-like catches. But the position he projects best at is cornerback. He stays low and balanced in his backpedal which allows him pounce out and make plays on the ball. He is also very physical at the point of attack in tight man coverage. This past season he recorded 54 tackles, four PBU's, and returned three fumbles for scores.
Chris Redmond, 6-0/345, DL, Ridgeview, SC
Redmond is so thick it is hard to find a camp jersey that fits over his upper body. His size, girth and strength at the point of attack make it near impossible to move him off the ball. This behemoth is also very light on his feet as he can slide down the line of scrimmage and get in on tackles. Redmond also does a great job of using his hands to win the leverage battle with offensive lineman. His skill set makes him the ideal nose tackle in a 3-4 defense.
Caleb Smith, 6-0/180, DB, Russell County, AL
This week Smith is practicing as a hybrid S/LB. He is extremely physical in tight man coverage using his long arms to dominate receivers at the line of scrimmage. His long strides allow him to wreak havoc in pass skeleton breaking up passes all over the field. You really have to like his frame because he will be able to hold at least another 20 pounds of muscle mass. Several coaches working the camp for the class of 2014 thought he was the best overall football player in his age group.
2015
Devonte Williams, 5-10/170 ATH, Bullis, MD
Williams worked out at receiver, running back, and corner back on this day. This guy is dangerous in space as he can make defenders miss with his excellent plant foot and hip wiggle. He possesses soft hands and enough vertical speed to stretch the field. But he was at his best when working out at cornerback. His technique as a corner is eloquent as he backpedals with swift small steps and exceptional balance. He is always in control of his body movements allowing him to cover tons of real estate in the secondary. Right now he projects best as either a corner or slot receiver.
