WEEK 2
Four teams dropped out of this week's NUC Top25. Our Lady of Good Counsel, MD went on the road and lost to Nevada power Bishop Gorman 27 to 22. Reigning DII Ohio State Champion was not as fast as the University School, FL losing 33 to 14. Perennial Arizona power Hamilton, AZ lost a close one 17 to 14 to Mountain Pointe, AZ. Finally Gilman, MD was taken out of the game quickly by #9 Archbishop Moeller 35 to 14.
New teams in the Week 2 NUC Top 25 are #20 Bishop Gorman behind the legs and arm of senior quarterback Jarrett Solomon. Coming in at #23 Walton, GA ran over Brookwood, GA 35 to 24 with a tremendous performance by Alabama commit Tyren Jones. New at #24 is Miami Central who takes on #2 Grayson, GA this week. Taking up the last spot in the new rankings is Texas powerhouse Lake Travis.
There are several big games that will test NUC nationally ranked teams. The Grayson (GA) Rams ranked #2 host #24 Miami Central. Can Grayson, GA stop the running back tandem of Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook? California power #12 De La Salle takes on the Wing-T of Bellarmine Prep, Ca. South Panola, MS #22 tries to avenge last year's loss to Hoover, AL. The Lone Star State kicks off its first week of football with some great matchups. Defending Texas 5A DI State Champion Southlake Carroll travels to Allen, TX. This will be the first game at Allen's brand new $60 million Eagle Stadium. Texas power Euless Trinity travels to the State of Washington to take on defending State Champ and NUC #19 Bellevue Wolverines.
We have Co-NUC players of the week. Senior receiver Akia Booker of Byrnes, SC scored five touchdowns versus Oscar Smith, VA on national TV. He caught threes scores and ran two in on the ground. Walton, GA senior running back Tyren Jones carried the 30 times for 303 yards and five scores in big win over Brookwood, GA at the Corky Kell Classic held in the Georgia Dome.
