| Washington (D.C.) St. John's College High 2014 athlete Omar Truitt At 5-10 and 165 pounds, Truitt is a very explosive athlete. Truitt had a great sophomore as he led his St. John's team in receiving. |
| Steven Barsamian/NUC: What is your favorite movie to watch? Omar Truitt: My favorite movie would probably be Think Like a Man, it just came out, and Friday. NUC: What is your favorite subject in school? OT: My favorite subject in school is Math. NUC: How are the offseason workouts going? OT: The offseason workouts are going well. I haven't been in the weight room a lot this offseason because I have been running track. Now that track is ending, I'm getting back in the weight room. I am gaining my weight back; I am trying to get stronger and faster. NUC: What would you say your strengths are as a player? OT: My strength would be making plays on the field. I am a playmaker. I feel I have great instincts and I know what to do when I have the ball in my hands. I am probably not the fastest guy on the football field, but I know what to do when I have the ball in my hands which makes me so explosive. NUC: What are you trying to improve on for next season? OT: I am trying to improve on playing cornerback because that is the position I am being recruited at right now. I played a lot of wide receiver last year, so I want to show everybody that I can play cornerback. NUC: What are your goals as a team for next year? OT: Of course win the championship. I also really want to beat DeMatha. We have not beaten DeMatha since I have been in school. We have to beat DeMatha especially after we lost to them last year in a heartbreaking way. NUC: So how is the recruiting process going? OT: The recruiting process is going very well. I have two offers from Syracuse and Richmond. Boston College, Uconn, Alabama, and Penn St have all said they are really interested in me. Alabama really wants me to come down to their camp. I was a little nervous after my freshman year because I was wondering why colleges were not trying to contact me. Now everything is alright because colleges are coming into my school a lot. NUC: You mentioned you are being recruited at cornerback, do you have a preference on which position you would like to play? OT: Whatever gets me on the field faster. Playing corner will probably get me on the field quicker. I like wide receiver but if I don't get faster or taller I will have to play corner. Although Syracuse said they like me at wide receiver. NUC: What are some of the things you like about each team that has offered? OT: I went down to Richmond for a 7-on-7 tournament with my team; I liked the prestige and the atmosphere down there. The school is not by any city but it has its own little nice section. It is also a great academic school. Syracuse has one of the top business schools in the nation. I like the tradition they have. I also like that some of the coaches coached and played in the NFL. Also one of my schools alumni Antwan Bailey, who plays for the Redskins, went to Syracuse. NUC: Do you have any camps or visits lined up for the summer? OT: Yes I do. Duke really wants me to come down; they said they are most likely going to offer. So I am going down there June 9th. After that I am going camp at Penn State on June 16th. Then I am going to camp at Notre Dame on June 22nd. Then my last camp will be Alabama on July 15th. I also will probably visit Boston College. NUC: Do you have any combines lined up? OT: I do not really have any combines lined up but last year I went to the NUC down in Alabama. My dad is from Alabama and I already competed against everybody up here so I wanted to show them what I got. I won the DB MVP down there. |
