NUC: What would you say your Strengths are as a Linebacker?
SH: I would say my strengths are being able to play off blocks & make the tackle, and fly down hill as well as being able to play sideline to sideline.
NUC: Your team is losing a couple key players from last year's defense, such as DJ Singleton. How good do you think your defense can be with returning players such as yourself and Tre Bell?
SH: Although we've lost a few players we are reloading and will have an even better defense this year. We have a lot of returning starters and a ton of young talent willing to step up. We should be dominant right off the bat.
NUC: Don Bosco and Bergen Catholic have been in the state title game these last two years, how will you overcome these two teams for this upcoming season?
SH: St. Peter's is a special place. We're extremely resilient; we're not letting any hype with any team come in the way of our ultimate goal which is the ring (State Championship ring). This team that the senior leaders and I are leading is going to be one to remember.
NUC: Who is your favorite LB to watch at the college level or in the NFL?
SH: Last season I loved watching Luke Kuechly, and in the NFL watching the passion Ray Lewis plays with is always fun to watch. Patrick Willis is another player I love to watch.
NUC: Okay let's switch to the recruiting side, how's it going with recruiting?
SH: Recruiting is going great. I hold 3 offers right now from UCF, Temple and Navy. I'm receiving a lot of interest from Stanford, Miami, Rutgers, Maryland, Kansas, Illinois, West Virginia and Indiana.
NUC: What position have the coaches told you can play at the next level, SAM, WILL, MIKE, or Hybrid?
SH: I've heard Mike, SAM, Hybrid and DE.
NUC: Do you have a preference on which position you would like to play?
SH: To be honest I just want to get on the field and be able to make an impact on the next level, position doesn't matter to me. Just being able to benefit my future team is what matters most.
NUC: Which teams are showing the most interest at this point?
SH: In addition to the schools who have offered, Stanford, Miami, West Virginia, BC and Rutgers. I'm also getting a host of interest from the Ivy League schools, such as Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Dartmouth and Brown.
NUC: What are some of the things you like about each team that has offered?
SH: UCF has great location and is a program on the rise. Now that they've entered the Big East and picked up some new coaches they'll be able to really compete. As for Temple, Coach Addazzio is a great Coach and he runs a tight ship. I look for them to be a powerhouse in the Big East. Temple is an extremely tough football program. They should have a great season this year. And finally Navy has a great reputation. One of the finest institutions in the world and has been able to compete with all the D1 caliber schools they've played. They too will also be entering the big east in 2015 which is a great move for them.
NUC: Do you have any favorites right now?
SH: Not at the moment, I'm keeping all my options open and will be going on plenty more visits. I will then be able to talk to Coach Hansen and my parents and formulate the best decision for me.
NUC: Did you have a favorite college team growing up?
SH: I've never been one to have a favorite team. I just love the game. But Notre Dame and Florida have been schools I've loved to watch.
NUC: Do you have any camps or visits lined up for the summer?
SH: Not at the moment, I've received a ton of camp invites from all over the country. I will be speaking to my Coach and aligning the visits and camps I will be attending this summer.
NUC: Are there any combine events in your plans?
SH: I attended the NFTC this past weekend in Baltimore. I've also received invites to try out for the USA team and the Chesapeake Bowl.
NUC: How did you like the NFTC event?
SH: It went great. I was able to compete with the best from VA up to Maine. It allowed me a great opportunity to see the caliber of players I will be competing with on the next level.
