ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. - While Marvin Gross may be undersized at just 6-1 ½, 186, observers shouldn't overlook him.
The Dunbar, Md. product recorded an incredible 31 sacks as a junior last season and impressed coaches at the NUC East Five Star Showcase on Sunday.
His incredible speed ensures he gets to the quarterback often and he is very athletic. But he's going to have to pack on some pounds as he prepares for the next level.
Gross is currently considering five schools -- Wake Forest, West Virginia, Rutgers, Washington and UTEP.
Gross plays defensive line, but with his size and speed, he would be better suited to outside linebacker at the next level. Maybe even a rover.
After making a few college visit, one thing stuck out to Gross - the practices.
"Just the practices and how intense they were," Gross told Nationalunderclassmen.com. "Everything was really fast, it was very different from high school practice."
In finding a program, Gross want a place where he will be ready to go all four years.
"Somewhere where I will be home as family, feel safe," said Gross. "[Somewhere] where I'll feel as though I can stay there all four years not want to transfer out of there after two years."
Gross knows people will dismiss him with his size, but he cautions that it would be a grave mistake.
"I can get after the quarterback, that's not a problem for me," said Gross. "I can also cover. "Me being the size I am, I can still compete with anyone, any time, any place in the world."
