Position: Defensive Tackle
Grade: 2013
Height: 6'2
Weight: 280lbs
Hometown/HS: Springfield, Tennessee (Springfield HS)
Strengths: Summers is a strong and surprisingly athletic interior defensive lineman who is lying way under the radar at this current time, but could be prospect to watch for during the coming months. Summers has a strong and athletic frame and the agility to move up and down the defensive line. He reportedly ran a 4.8 in the forty yard dash this past weekend at the DeVinner Combine in Franklin, Tennessee. Summers shows good strength and has the size to hold up well inside the trenches. He can get down in a three point stance and rush the passer with his quickness and strength to get through the offensive line. Summers has the look of a good combination defensive tackle that could produce pressure in the opponent's backfield while also lending help in stuffing the run. He has the frame and size to continue to grow and become an outstanding defensive line prospect for the collegiate level.
Weaknesses: Summers is a very intriguing prospect that has potential to reach the ultimate level of college football but certainly has a lot to work on before he starts to see coaches throw interest his way. Summers is still a raw prospect who still has a lot of coachable qualities about him that have yet to have been taught to him. He needs to learn more technique on how to use his hands better and use his large frame to his advantage. Summers love to use his natural skills and athleticism but could get beat by smarter offensive lineman who can move and stay with his quickness. His technique needs polishing but certainly has the mindset to improve in that area. Summers also needs to continue to get bigger and stronger if he wants to play on the Division 1 football level. Bigger offensive lineman could have a chance to handle Summers and shut down his athleticism and quickness on occasions and make him a non-factor. He has plenty of time to continue to get bigger throughout the offseason and work to improve his game on the practice field.
Overview: Summers is a strong, athletic and coachable defensive lineman who is hidden away in a small town in Middle Tennessee that could start to become a top prospect after a strong offseason of camps as well as continuing to hit the weight room and practice field hard. He has the size, smarts, athleticism and strength that you look for in an interior defensive lineman that could play three downs and bring versatility to your defensive line. Summers has yet to receive much interest but has received camp invites from both Tennessee and Kentucky, but he hopes to get to out to more camps this summer and gain interest from as many schools as he can. Summer is certainly an under the radar prospect who could turn out to be a solid recruit for whoever finds this player and gives him an opportunity to shine.
