Position: Cornerback
Grade: 2013
Height: 5'9 ½
Weight: 180lbs
Hometown/HS: Ocala, Florida (Vanguard HS)
Strengths: Lofton is an unknown prospect from Central Florida who is starting to burst onto the recruiting scene after having a great performance at the 2012 NUC Florida 5 Star Showcase. Lofton displayed outstanding cover skills along with the speed and athleticism to compete against BCS level prospects at the showcase. He has great on the ball man to man skills and has the instincts to make a break on the ball when the quarterback doesn't see him coming. Lofton has the speed to keep up with his receiver along with the ability to drape himself all over him and not give him an inch to catch the ball. When it comes to pure cover corner man on man football, Lofton has those talents and those talents translate well into the Division 1 football game. He has solid size for a corner and he has real long arms that allow him to make himself a nuisance for the opposing receiver. Lofton has outstanding feet and the recovery speed to make a play on the ball even when has been beat on the route. Overall Lofton has outstanding cornerback abilities that will continue to improve and could hopefully land him on the Division 1 football level one day.
Weaknesses: Lofton comes in as a hidden gem with abilities that could flourish at the next level but he also needs to work on several areas of his game before he could be ready to compete in college football. Lofton works and plays a lot off his man to man coverage, so he probably needs to continue to learn on how to play in coverage. He needs to continue to get bigger and stronger cause he only stands 5'9 ½ and the players at the next level are much bigger and stronger than what Lofton sees in high school. Lofton needs to work on his feet a little better because sometimes he gets beat by double moves which hinder him from making a play on the ball. His feet are smooth and quick but Lofton doesn't always use his agility to his advantage. He needs to trust his instincts more and with doing that he should be able to be in better positions to make something happen for his defense. Lofton has several areas to improve but certainly has the natural and raw talents to play cornerback in college football.
Overview: Lofton came to the NUC Florida 5 Star Showcase looking to make a name for himself and he did more than just that. Lofton was one of the biggest surprises of the entire camp and left as a prospect that looked like a Division 1 football recruit. Lofton showed big time cover corner skills and the willingness to be coached. He has a great attitude and wants to be the best player he can become. So far he hasn't seen his recruitment go the way he would like. He has yet to generate much interest nor has he heard from any college coaches. His highlight tape is just now starting to hit the mainstream and soon he should see more attention come his way. Lofton is a great talent that stood out among all competitors in Orlando and he should be a name to follow all the way throughout the 2012 recruiting season.
