NUC Player Spotlight - Marquis Morton
|
|
Position: Running Back
Grade: 2013
Height: 6'0
Weight: 190lbs
Hometown/HS: Shelbyville, Tennessee (Shelbyville HS)
Strengths: Morton is a small city back that has big town talents and the potential to become an outstanding ball carrier on the Division 1 football level. Morton has excellent size. He has the frame and body to take the punishment from defenders and keep rumbling his way down the field. Morton has outstanding vision and can find the hole in the line before it even begins to open up. He hits the hole hard and once he hits the hole he is gone. Morton has good speed for his size and can be a breakaway threat with the ball in his hands. He has the ability to make something happen either by ground or by catching passes out of the backfield and turning it up field. Morton is a smart young man that knows what he is doing out on the football field and stays calm so he can be a leader for his team. Morton also has the talents to play on defense as well as either a cover corner or a ball hawking safety. Versatility and pure athleticism should take Morton a long way in his football future.
Weaknesses: Morton has several talents that scream potential but has a few areas he needs to work before he reaches the next step in football. Morton has good vision at finding the hole but his feet sometimes gets in his way when trying to make the proper cuts. He needs to slow his feet down and gather them better which will allow him to make sharper cuts and the possibility of reaching the end zone. Morton could use more work in the blocking area of playing running back. Morton runs a little upright which could slow him down. He needs to run with more balance and keep himself lower when trying to run through a pile of lineman. Morton isn't overly too fast but has solid speed.
Overview: Morton comes from a small town in Tennessee who is hoping to play on the bright lights of college football and he has the skill set to do so. He has the size, vision and physicality to play on the highest level of Division 1 football. Morton has yet to receive any offers but is hearing quite a bit from Kentucky, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State, Virginia Tech, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and Duke. He has camps set up for Kentucky, MTSU and Tennessee and they start up next week with MTSU. Morton is hoping a big summer circuit of camps leads him to offers and the opportunity to play BCS level college football. More schools are sure to get involved as the year goes on and Morton could be an absolute steal for whoever eventually receives his commitment.
