Position: Quarterback  Grade: 2014  Height: 6'7  Weight: 210lbs  Hometown/HS: Marietta, Georgia (Wheeler HS)
Strengths: Staley is a football prospect who is loaded full of football talents. He is a 6'7 lefty who has a gun slinging left arm that allows him to make every throw you want a quarterback to make at the Division 1 football level. Staley stands tall in the pocket and can see everything happening on the field before anyone else does. He is able to see over the defense and find the open receiver in spaces. Staley throws a pretty ball and a tight spiral every time the ball leaves his hands. He has the ability to place the ball right on target and put it where only his receiver can catch the ball. Staley considers himself a pocket passer and not an athletic football player who can run and sometimes make the correct throw. He has the right mindset and willingness to learn everything he can about becoming the best pure passer he can be. Staley is smart and knows what his job is on the field. He is polished for such a young age and has the mental capacity to learn everything about the quarterback position. Staley is loaded full of potential and could eventually become one of the hottest recruits in the country for the recruiting class of 2014.
Weaknesses: Staley has plenty of traits about his game that makes scouts and coaches drool over his abilities, but he does need to improve in a couple of areas before he is ready to reach the next level. Staley has an absolute powerful left arm and it sometimes gets him trouble. He can sometimes throw the ball with too much power and it hinders his receivers from hauling in the catches. Staley needs to learn when to put that something extra on his pass and when to slow it down and give his receiver a softer pass to catch. Staley loves using his strong arm and he enjoys throwing the ball far down the field, but sometimes he forgets his check downs and misses open receivers. He needs to understand that when a receiver is covered down the field that he can check down and find a running back or tight end out in the flats. Staley doesn't have too many flaws about his game and he has plenty of time to improve in these areas and become a complete quarterback.
Overview: Elijah Staley was a pleasant surprise down in Atlanta, Georgia at the NUC Camp held at Tri Cities High School this past weekend. He was by far and away the top prospect with the biggest potential and the player who could reach the highest level of college football. Staley has the size, arm strength and intelligence to not only possibly become a college starting quarterback but also possibly become one of the best in all of college football. He has yet to see any interest from college coaches but after a big showing in Atlanta and more time to hit camps throughout the summer his name should start to resonate among the best football programs in college football.
