Derek Edwards from Novi, Michigan (Detroit Catholic Central HS) is slowly but surely becoming a hot prospect on the recruiting scene and on Monday night he received his second official offer from the Toledo Rockets and he could be close to exploding with multiple offers from BCS level programs.
Edwards had already received an offer from the University of Arizona before picking up the offer from Toledo on Monday night. He has been receiving strong interest from several high profile football programs and he feels he could be on the verge of seeing his offer sheet double up within a short period of time.
"Things had been quiet for me for a while but after Arizona came through an offered me I started to hear from all sorts of college coaches that seem to be very interested in my talents," said Edwards. "Toledo came through an offered last night and I think I could be close to getting my next offer. Syracuse, Michigan State and Cincinnati have been talking to me a lot lately and have been staying in contact with me on a consistent basis. All three of those schools tell me that they love my size and my potential as a future college offensive tackle. I am not sure on when that next offer will arrive but I do feel it will be pretty soon."
Edwards has a great look to him as a future starting college lineman who currently stands at 6'5 272lbs and still growing. He has a long and lanky figure that still has room to grow but certainly has the frame to add the needed weight and muscle to withstand the punishment offensive lineman take on the collegiate football field. Edwards loving getting physical and he has the mean streak needed to dominate inside the trenches.
"I think the best part of my game right now is my ability to get physical with anyone I come in contact with and play with a mean attitude that allows me to get my motor running throughout the entire game," said Edwards. "I really enjoy run blocking and I think I do real well in pulling off the line. I like to pancake my opponents and keep pancaking them all game long. I really enjoy playing the game of football and I work hard all the time to reach my goal of playing Division 1 football."
Edwards has the size, skill level and potential to play at the highest level of college football and he is prepared to take his recruitment as long as it takes until he is able to find his future college home. He understands he is a long ways off from seeing his recruitment come to an end as more schools are sure to come through with official offers. Edwards is remaining patient and keeping an open mind to anyone interested in his talents.
"I am just excited to see so many schools interested in me that I just want to keep an open mind and see where my recruitment could lead me," said Edwards. "I have gained interest from all sorts of schools from different regions and it seems like my name is generating well around the recruiting scene. I am wide open right now and I plan to attend several different camps and combines over the next several months. I am hoping to gain as many offers as I can before I am completely ready to think about making a decision."
