Fast rising defensive lineman Maurice Hurst Jr from Westwood, Massachusetts (Xaverian HS) has seen his college recruitment go from no interest to a grand total of six offers now after the University of Nebraska extended Hurst Jr an official offer on Wednesday night. Hurst Jr is a 6'2 285lb defensive tackle who is being pursued by multiple D1 football programs, but according to him he had no idea that the Cornhuskers were so interested in his abilities.
"When I received the offer from Nebraska I was excited and somewhat confused at the same time, said Hurst Jr." I hadn't been talking too much with them but when they contacted me and said they wanted to officially offer, I was blown away and excited that I had an offer from such a great traditional football program. I am happy to have an offer from them and they will defiantly be on my list all the way throughout my process."
Hurst Jr has jumped onto the recruiting scene in a major way. He has peaked the interest of several high major football programs from all around the country and is continuing to see more schools come in contact and show tons of interest. Hurst Jr currently sits with six official offers but thinks he could be on the verge of receiving some offers from some schools that consistently play on the biggest stage there is in college football.
"I have been hearing from all sorts of schools lately and I really feel I could be close to doubling up my offers list, said Hurst Jr." Ohio State, Michigan, Missouri and Penn State have been talking to me a lot lately and all four schools seem to be really interested in my talents. Michigan has really been cranking up the interest lately and I think they could end up becoming my next offer."
Hurst Jr has become such a wanted man because of his excellent athleticism as well as his natural power that he displays from the inside of the defensive line. He is a disruptive force who consistently plays in the other team's backfield and has nose for putting the quarterback on the turf. Hurst Jr is a player who is still improving in all areas but certainly has the talents and mental makeup to compete at the highest level of college football.
He is currently at the point where he isn't looking to take things too fast. Hurst Jr wants to sit back and enjoy this process and be able to find out which school out there fits his needs and gives him the best opportunity to succeed in college. Hurst Jr would ultimately like to get his decision out of the way before the start of senior season, so he plans to hit the road this offseason and see as many college campuses as possible.
"Right now I am wide open and interested in anyone who is interested in me, said Hurst Jr." I don't have any favorites or anyone out in front. I am just getting into the beginning stages of my recruitment so I am just listening and keeping my ears open to what all everyone is sending my way. I would like to make my decision before I head into my senior year of football. I would like to get all of my recruitment out of the way by then so I don't have to worry about going through it during my football season. I will make plenty of visits this summer and get the chance to see what each is offering me in a college experience. I am looking forward to it and this offseason for me should be fun."
