Coach Jeff Tedford and the California Golden Bears have put out several high profile quarterbacks throughout their programs history and they are hoping Marin Catholic High School (Kentfield, CA) QB Jared Goff is the next great signal caller to come out of Berkeley. Goff received an official offer from the Golden Bears two weeks ago and over this past weekend he decided to put an end to his recruitment when he gave his commitment to the University of California.
"I am committed to California and I couldn't be any more excited to be a part of the future of their football program," said Goff. "I received an official offer from them about two weeks and when I did receive that offer I knew I had received an offer from my future college. I always wanted to commit early and get my process out of the way so when I received an opportunity to play with Cal I could not pass up the chance."
Goff is a hot name on the recruiting scene right now but really wanted to have his process out of the way so he could focus on his overall game as well as finishing strong in school during his senior year. Goff was sure to receive more offers and still could, but in his mind he knew where he wanted to be and was ready to get it over with.
"I have always been a big fan of Cal and I loved absolutely everything they had to offer for a college experience," said Goff. "I have been able to take a couple of visits there and I really liked their facilities and the way they churn out high level quarterbacks. Coach Tedford and the rest of the coaching staff all made me feel wanted and made feel like I was the guy they wanted to lead their offense in the future. I am 100% committed to Cal and not too sure if I will look at any other schools."
Goff is an elite pocket passer that throws the ball with great accuracy and understands what he is doing every time he is under center. He is savvy and has a great feel for the game. Goff is a smooth customer out on the football field who doesn't get rattled and doesn't let anything boggle his mind and take him away from winning the football game. He comes ready to play every game and has the leadership qualities you look for in a college starting quarterback.
"I am first and foremost a teammate and a leader to all of my teammates," said Goff. "I know that being a quarterback comes with a lot of responsibilities and the pressure of making things happen for your entire team. I keep myself poised throughout the entire duration of the ball game and I never let anything get in my head and hinder me from performing. I like to think of myself as an accurate passer and someone that can make all the throws. I am good at reading my progressions and checking down to find the open man. I know how to run and offense and I think my smarts and ability to learn will take me a long way in my college career."
Goff has all the tools to turn into a big time prospect in college at the University of California. He has a long way to go in the weight room (6'4 190lbs) and more time to learn while practicing on the football field, but certainly has the makeup of a tough minded, smart and accurate passer who could blossom under the tutelage of Coach Tedford and the California Golden Bears.
