Coach Schuman's Open Letter to Recruits: Part Two

#2. How do I get to be an All American?
A. See Part One for most of it!
B. If you are a top player you must then also make sure sites like NationalUnderclassmen.com, Rivals.com, Scout.com, Maxpreps.com, 247Sports.com, Bleacher Report all know who you are. Please don't harass them, but do send your film, your bio, your stats, your combine results and awards and they will find the best!
C. You must be a top player in your area, your state first. There are no all-American that are not All State something. Be the best player you can be, train like an animal, and become the best and you will be recognized!
D. Small school players can be All Americans! Just ask Jonathan Gray he is going to Texas and plays a mid-sized school and holds every rushing record ever recorded and is an All American!
#3. Does Training Make a difference?
A. Absolutely, I always say to high school athletes, Train with your team first and go over and above by training again with a great trainer!
B. There are outstanding trainers everywhere, look for the NUC Training Affiliates to find more at nationalunderclassmen.com coming soon. You need work in three areas. 1. Combine Prep 2. Positions Skills 3. Speed and Strength....and 4th area is mental training but that can be addressed in my opinion by handling the first three areas first, because with high school athletes if they have prepared physically they always feel better mentally!
C. LEARN YOUR PLAYBOOK AND LEARN THE GAME. I have younger cousins in high school that love to play madden and NCAA and think they know the game from that and yet know nothing. How do I know, because as a coach when I play then in Xbox after getting familiar with the game, I always beat them in game 2 and beyond. Why? Because I read coverage's, know where my receivers are going and I just run the same play over and over again, read the coverage and deliver the football. They say oh you're a coach you just read the coverage's!!! Correct, I know the game, it is your job as a player to know the game, seek help, watch film and get better! The more you know the better a player you will be! Know coverage's, know scheme, know your position, know the reads. Then you will be great!
FINALLY, your job is to leverage your football athletic ability to get a college degree.  If you get a scholarship great, if you become an all-American even better, but most importantly, football players have an opportunity to go to schools that they may not normally get into because they are great football players and good students! Take advantage of your life opportunities, they only come around once!  College is a 40 year investment in your future, not a four year one! Always remember that! I hope this helps! I am a guru of recruiting and understand the process, and I am also a high school coach, who played on scholarship at UCONN, so I know the process from all angles! I have my own players that play in the NFL and on Scholarship at various D-1 schools!
Work hard, be accountable for your actions, and take your game to the next level. You can always find me on Facebook just look up either David Schuman or Dave Schuman or facebook.com/nationalunderclassmen or follow me on twitter @nucfootball. You can ask me questions on there as well. Good luck and I will see you in the spring, and if you are graduated or going to graduate, head the above and you always be special!!
