NUC Top Prospect-Marcus Davis, Dublin Coffman HS, IN Class of 2012
Marcus Davis, Dublin Coffman HS, IN Class of 2012: Davis, 5’10 160, was amongst the top wideouts from 09’. Davis competed at the Ultimate 100 as well as the highly touted Top Prospect Camp at the University of Oklahoma, putting his talents up against the best players in the country. Much like his uncle Cris Carter, Davis has terrific hands.
Future Outlook: Davis needs to put work in the weight room but football ability wise, it is all there. He is a terrific student athlete with a good understanding of football. His great hands make him a major threat, especially to grab the deep ball.
NUC Top Prospect-Victor Irokansi, Hendrickson HS, TX Class of 2012
Victor Irokansi, Hendrickson HS, TX Class of 2012: Irokansi is a tremendous athlete and was amongst the best of d-linemen in 09’. Irokansi, the Combine King at the Dallas Ultimate 100, wowed our coaches with his 32 inch vertical, 10’1 broad jump, 4.66 shuttle run and 23 reps at 155 lbs on the bench press. He has great quickness and anticipates plays quite well.
Future Outlook: Ironkansi is a major menace for opposing linemen due to his quickness. His ability to break free undoubtedly makes him a tackle machine. He needs to put on more weight if he wants to stick around at DL in college but even if he moves to linebacker, he is more than a good enough athlete to be effective at a new position.

| D.J. Hubbard was one of the top athletes in attendance at the NUC last weekend |
Latu was performing very well until a mild elbow injury ended his day prematurely. Following the event he told Rivals.com that several schools are showing heavy interest and could offer soon, including Arizona, where Latu plans to attend Junior Day later this month.
Hubbard was named the combine king after running the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds to go with a 35-inch vertical and a broad jump of 10 feet, 2 inches. He is an explosive athlete who is probably best suited to play slot receiver or cornerback at the next level because of his 5-foot-6 frame. An excellent student, Hubbard told Rivals.com that he has been receiving recruiting interest from the majority of the Pac-10.
Kamp was named the defensive line MVP. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder dominated in one-on-one drills and showed good quickness to go with a long athletic frame. He has been receiving a lot of interest from Pac-10 programs and should be picking up scholarship offers this spring.
The wide receiver group was called one of the most impressive in the nation by combine director, coach David Schuman. Several prospects gave impressive performances from this group. Tempe Marcos de Niza had a trio of standouts. Padre wide receivers Deaunte Jefferson and Martwon Weaver joined Peoria Centennial's Julien Singleton as co-MVP's for the group. Singleton is an above average athlete who could play on either side of the ball.
Jefferson ran a 4.59 second forty-yard dash to go with a 33-inch vertical jump and a broad jump of 9 feet, 6 inches. Weaver ran a 4.40 forty-yard dash and also took home the combine leadership award. Anthony Shivers, the third Padre standout, also received recognition from the coaches for his ability to catch the ball as well as good athletic ability.
The defensive back group held its own versus the wide receivers. Goodyear Millennium's DeAnthony Easley took home MVP honors and showed that he has the athletic ability to play cornerback at the next level. Tolleson's Jalen Roebuck was the top safety prospect in attendance. Roebuck has a good frame and showed speed and quickness in coverage drills. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder said he has been hearing from Arizona State as well as several other schools across the region.
Goodyear Desert Edge defensive back Danell Miles is another prospect to keep an eye on. Miles is probably best suited for safety in college. He said that Oklahoma, Fresno State and Colorado have shown early interest. Tim Foley, from Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico, also gave an impressive performance. He looks like a solid D1 cornerback prospect.
The running back group was also very competitive. Peoria Centennial running back Vegas Johnson picked up MVP honors for the group. The 5-foot-10, 205-pounder probably will be over 215 pounds in college has showed good quickness and speed(4.61 40-yard dash). He expects to play some linebacker for the Coyotes this year. Arizona State is the program Johnson said has shown the most interest to date. Winslow's Wendell Carter, while undersized, showed great quickness in drills and was a favorite of the combine staff.
Greenway's Shawn Jones had one the best 40-yard dash times (4.51) for the running backs. Jones could project to safety or running back at the next level. Fairfax's Kimothy King showed good athletic ability in drills. At 5-foot-9 and 180-pounds, King has a short but solid frame. The coaches commented that he could be a sleeper recruit to remember.
Queen Creek's Adam Brzeczek took home MVP honors for the quarterbacks. He was the most proficient in drills. The 6-foot 180-pound prospect is probably not a high major prospect but he has D1 potential. Brophy's Garrett Wilson and Mountain View's Jeremy Boatright also drew praise from the coaches.
Fairfax's Alex Hernandez and Apollo's Chrisdeon Ayiyi were the co-MVP's for the tight ends. The coaches commented that both gave solid all-around performances and should garner recruiting interest from mid-tier programs during their senior seasons. Mountain View's Justin Newman also was very impressive. Newman has a good frame (6-foot-3)and catches the ball very well. He told Rivals.com that Arizona State and several other programs from around the region have been showing interest.
Moon Valley's Vivii Teofilo took home MVP honors for the offensive line. Teofilo held his own against Kamp and Latu in one-on-one drills. At 6-foot-3, 260 pounds, Teofilo is a solid athlete for a lineman. He had 29 repetitions at 185 pounds and with some more work in the weight room should be a solid D1 prospect. Centennial's Hunter Finn showed toughness and work ethnic in the one-on-ones. The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder played left tackle on a line that had three seniors, including four-star Nick Rowland, sign with four year universities.
Douglas linebacker Hunter Long earned MVP honors for his position group. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound prospect demonstrated good athletic ability and strength. He should be one of the better middle linebacker prospects in the state.
Desert Vista's Corey Arnold worked out with the defensive ends but could play tight end as well. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder looks more like a small forward right now but the coaches felt he has a lot of promise if he works hard in the weight room.
Estrella Foothills lineman Michael Bentley took home strongest man honors with 35 repetitions of 185 pounds on the benchpress.

Sophomore Prove to be Sensational at Apache Junction HS!
The Phoenix Area Sophomore Session showcased a number of terrific prospects last Saturday at Apache Junction HS. The athletes were fired up from the get go and with the kind of competition there was at the event, they had a reason to be.
The star of the day was Chaperrel HS’ DaVonte “Real Deal” Neal. The 5’9.5 167 lb Neal won the Overall MVP and Fastest Man award, topping his session for the second consecutive year. Neal had a 32 inch vertical, 9’1 broad jump, ran a 4.29 shuttle, 4.41 He is also a terrific WR who has tremendous explosiveness, great hands, a solid understanding of the game and the ability to consistently create space between him and the opposing DB. While Neal still needs work on his strength, he is a complete player in terms of his athletic and pure football abilities.
LeAndre Vaughn of Agua Fria HS was best cornerback of the session, taking home the DB MVP. Vaughn, a terrific athlete, was very aggressive, had great footwork, good movement from the hips and made a quick break every time the ball headed in his direction. Vaughn could also jump, as his 30 inch vertical and 9’2 broad jump made him a threat for a pick six at any given time.
The Randy Moss award (or what we call the Combine King) for the best all around athlete went to Gilbert HS’ Marcus Brantley, a hands down choice for the trophy. Brantley ran a ridiculous 3.95 shuttle (just 3 milliseconds short of our all time record) 4.44 40, had a 33.5 inch vertical, 8’6 broad jump and bench pressed 155 lbs 20 times. This 5’8 169 lb safety is entertaining as they come!
From the defensive lineman standpoint, Dwight Melvin was in a league of his own. The 6’0.5 239 lb standout from Fair Fax HS won the DL MVP after a solid display of quickness and physical strength helped him wreck havoc on opposing linemen during 1 on 1’s. Regardless of how big and strong some of these players are the athletically gifted linemen are the ones that do the most damage.
Hakim Mathieu’s work ethic really caught our eye. The Hamilton HS standout hustled non stop, simply refusing to give up even when the going got tough en route to winning the Leadership award. There are even some elite NFL players who can’t keep it together like Mathieu. He was also a good athlete, as his 8’9 broad jump and 4.58 shuttle run were more than noteworthy.
Casey Jahn accomplished a rare feat Saturday afternoon, taking home the Strongest Man award as a running back. The 5’11 192 lb powerhouse bench pressed 155 lbs 34 times, had an 8’5 broad jump, ran a 4.21 shuttle, 4.65 40 and did a nice job during 1 on 1’s. Jahn’s all around abilities make him a highly touted RB in our eyes. Northwest Christian really has a special player on their roster.
Much like earlier in the freshman session, the best battle was at the QB spot. I assumed the way that Allen Thigpen and Matt Young went at it to grab the spotlight earlier couldn’t be matched. Assumption wrong.
Kurtis Walls, Connor Brewer and Jordan Gehrke each had a tremendous day on the gridiron; thus making choosing a QB MVP harder than trying to figure out Brett Favre’s 2010 outlook.
Walls, 6’1 175, of Fairfax HS did a terrific job during 1 on 1’s. He was accurate, had a strong arm and good footwork. It was really a pleasure watching him operate.
Brewer had solid athleticism and a lot of potential. The Chaparral HS student had a 30 inch vertical, 8’0 broad jump and ran a 4.69 shuttle, all solid for a QB. During 1 on 1’s, he displayed a terrific arm and is a gunslinger more or less. He needs some work on accuracy but with good coaching, expect to hear much more about this 6’0.5 171 lber.
The best of the bunch however was Jordan Gehrke. Gehrke put in a ton of hard work, had a quick drop step, solid accuracy and threw a great ball. The 6’0 161 lb star from Notre Dame Prep really made a name for himself at the camp.
From end to end, the Phoenix Sophomore Combine was quite impressive to say the least.

NUC Freshman Class off to a Sizzling Start in the Phoenix Area!
The 2010 National Underclassmen Combine season started with a bang last Saturday at Apache Junction HS in Apache Junction, AZ. The weather was terrific – far better than it is in our New Jersey headquarters – and talent wise, this one was a scorcher!
Blue Ridge HS’ Chans Cox topped off the day with his Overall MVP award winning performance. The 6’2 196 lb running back had an 8’1 broad jump bench pressed 135 lbs 23 times and ran a 4.79 shuttle. Cox’ athleticism, strength and soft hands (he was a star during the individual period) makes him a player that should create attention for years to come.
The QB battle was a memorable, with a number of talented players making the entertainment value from the individual period at an all time high.
Allen Thigpen of Hamilton HS was cool, calm and collective en route to taking the MVP. The 6’0 161 lber had a terrific arm, solid footwork and was your prototypical leading QB (he also won the leadership award). He was extremely coachable and can fit his game into any team’s offensive system.
Desert Vista’s Matt Young is also a terrific QB with a great future, catching the eye of the NUC coaches and numerous spectators. Young’s ability to hit his receivers, quick feet and consistency earned him the co-QB MVP. Perhaps his parents should have named him Steve? Regardless, Young should develop into a memorable player. If the QB’s continue to be as good as they were during the first session, 2010 should be known as the year of the quarterbacks.
As good as Young and Thigpen were, their day wouldn’t have been as successful if it weren’t for terrific receivers like Thair Blakes. Blakes is a big freshman at 6’4.5 182, but brings a lot more than just a big body on the football field. Blakes is a terrific athlete (he had an 8’8 broad jump at the combine), creates great separation between himself and the receiver and has very good hands. Blakes was unquestionably one of the best players during this talented session.
From a defensive standpoint, Centennial HS’ Jalen Ortiz stole the show, nabbing the DB MVP along with the Fastest Man award. The 5’8 151 lb sensation created plenty of frustration for QB’s and WR’s, locking down the offense during the individual period and picking off more than 5 passes. Ortiz, who ran an impressive 4.62 shuttle, had an 8’9 broad jump and a 28.5 inch vertical.
Kyle Harms was the best pure athlete in the session, coming up with the highly touted Combine King award. The 5’6 156 lber had a 29.5 inch vertical, 8’9 broad jump, ran a 4.63 40 and a 4.44 shuttle. Harms is a crafty RB, but is definitely a threat on special teams.
The Phoenix freshman really got the season started on a good note and with 60+ events scheduled, hopefully there is much more to come.

NUC Phoenix Junior Day Article:Juniors Highly Impressive at Apache!
Juniors Highly Impressive at Apache!
Junior year is unquestionably the most important for a high school athlete. Scouts are watching closely, critiquing everything that they see. Naturally, this adds immense pressure to players who are one year away from college. While being under the microscope is far from fun, the juniors at Apache Junction HS came up big time when it mattered most.
From start to finish, the combine was nothing short of sensational. The 135+ athletes on hand knew what they needed to do in order to get the recognition on the next level, performing at an all-time high level.
The Overall MVP DJ Hubbard was a returning athlete. He put up huge numbers last year but amazingly, surpassed them in 10’. Undersized but far from lacking skills at 5’5.5 152, Hubbard had a Lebron James-esque 35 inch vertical, 10’2 broad jump, ran a 4.28 shuttle, 4.38 40 and did a great job during 1 on 1’s. Sure, he isn’t as big as your typical D-1 player, but it would be a tragedy if he didn’t get an offer.
Deaunte Jefferson and Martwon Weaver – teammates at Marcos De Niza HS – and Julien Singleton of Centennial HS shared the WR MVP. All three were terrific athletes, jumping 9’1 or higher with 30+ inch verticals, in addition to having good quickness. The talented trio was exceptional during 1 on 1’s, while Weaver also took home the WR MVP, beating out other rising stars like Fairfax HS’ Walter Wallace. Impressive to say the least.
Vegas Johnson was right on the money at the combine, taking home the RB MVP. The Centennial HS standout ran a 4.66 shuttle, 4.63 40 and did a tremendous job during the individual period. Johnson’s first name is perfect and if he makes it big time, you can’t help but to think he will become a fan favorite.
Moon Valley HS’ Vivi Teofilo and Mountain View’s Sam Kemp were the best big men of the session, taking home the OL and DL MVP’s respectively. Teofilo, 6’2.5 258, bench pressed 185 lbs 29 times and had surprising quickness for a player his size, holding the opposing linemen down. Much like his counterpart, Kemp had good quickness (he ran a 4.66 shuttle) for a 6’4 230 lber and wrecked havoc during the 1 on 1’s in addition to bench pressing 185 lbs 17 times.
Saftey DeAnthony Easley made look exactly that en route to nabbing the DB MVP. A terrific athlete at 5’8 180, Easley had a 30 inch vertical, 8’7 broad jump, ran a 4.57 40 and was a menace during 1 on 1’s. Easley’s quickness, explosiveness and ability to read the offense created plenty of frustrations at the other side of the ball. He is definitely a player worth keeping an eye on.
Hunter Long was the top linebacker, thus came up with the LB MVP. The 6’2 222 lb Long has an aggressive style and did a great job of holding the RB’s in check during 1 on 1’s. This kid is clearly a tackle machine.
Much like the WR slot, the TE’s stepped onto the field to compete as if there were no tomorrow.
Chrisdeon Ayiyi (Apollo HS) and Alex Hernandez (Fairfax) split the MVP honors, as each excelled during the individual periods. The 6’0 191 lb Ayiyi, although more of a wide receiver, runs good routes and has soft hands, while Hernandez, 5’11.5 201, has excellent speed. Great to see a finesse and power style TE both take center stage.
While he had the aforementioned TE’s and WR’s guiding him, Queen Creek HS’ Adam Brzeczek was far from just a QB with good surrounding players. Brzecek, the QB MVP, was an accurate passer with a great drop step and had excellent confidence. Most 16-17 year old QB’s simply can’t make that claim.
Finally, Estrella Foothills HS’ Michael Bentley is a physical specimen. At 5’11.5 280, Bentley bench pressed 185 lbs 36 times and is a monster of a man on the offensive line.
This combine was simply one for the ages! If the play continues to be at a level this high throughout the 2010 season, I can only imagine how many future D-1 stars we will see.

The National Underclassmen Combine: Where Sin City’s Future Greats Are Discovered
The National Underclassmen Combine: Where Sin City’s Future Greats Are Discovered
By Matt Yanofsky
Sin City and the Entertainment Capital of the World are two of Las Vegas’ monikers. Nightclubs, comedy shows, casinos and various other entertainment ventures in this city keep even the ultimate nightlife fanatics occupied throughout all hours of the night. Although it’s self proclaimed motto of “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” is permanently attached to the most famous part of Nevada, this renowned city has showcased football players far to good to simply sweep under the rug.
During the last three years, The National Underclassmen Combine has discovered a number of those buzzworthy athletes. In 2009, the NUC’s stars included D-1 bound David Dash (Iowa State), Geoffrey Gibson (California), and Alex Turner (Stanford), while sensational underclassmen DeSean Martin, Rakeem Griffin and Brandon Wright made major noise as well.
“Las Vegas’ advertisements should really read nightclubs, great comedy shows and the home of many future football stars”, said Schuman, who was initially shocked at the Vegas’ talent pool. “The D-1 level talent here was very impressive and I’ll bet the house that this year will produce even more top tier athletes”
The 2010 camp takes place right off the strip at Henderson International School February 13. 8th, 9th and 10th graders compete at 8 am, while juniors grind it out at 1 pm. All athletes participate in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions.
Athletes can sign up for the Las Vegas combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.

Hi coach,
My name is Moses Chacon-Vaivao and myself and 3 of my friends participated this past weekends combine and all did well. 3 of us made it to the freshman showcase round. Kevin Walters, Malcolm Thomas and myself. I felt that I did well and was in the running but obviosly not enough to capture the RB honors. This was a good experience for me to recognize where I'm at what I need to work on. Honestly I am more passionate to perform my best after this experience. TESTIMONIAL FROM PHOENIX MVP! at the National Underclassmen Combine
Dear Coach Schuman, I just wanted to drop a quick note about how impressed I was with you and your staff at the Phoenix Combine!! My son is Chans Cox, freshman MVP. He was so pumped to win that award. We are hoping on him having a great career, God willing, no more injuries. He had a major shoulder dislocation and surgery last year (just like Drew Brees). The valuable info given at the combine on recruiting and such,.was excellent. I look forward to working with the folks at NCSA. You run a top notch program!!!! Can't wait for next year's combine and hopefully the Ultimate 100.
God Bless!!

Combine highlights
The Dave Schuman National Underclassmen Football Combine rolled into Apache Junction for the weekend. Here were a few highlights from Saturday's freshmen and sophomores:
Lakeside Blue Ridge's Chans Cox was the freshman MVP. He came in as a running back at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. But Schuman can see him playing linebacker and tight end. He says much of his game already is "polished."
Phoenix Desert Vista's Matt Young and Chandler Hamilton's Allen Thigpen stood out among the freshmen quarterbacks, Schuman said.
Phoenix St. Mary's freshman Thair Blakes was the wide receiver MVP. He is already 6-4. "He's still trying to get comfortable with his body," Schuman said.
Among the sophomores, Schuman was impressed with the quarterbacks and skill players, including Northwest Christian running back Casey Jahn and Scottsdale Notre Dame QB Jordan Gehrke.
Jahn did 34 repititions at 155 pounds in the bench press. Gehrke, 6-1, separated himself from Scottsdale Chaparral's Connor Brewer, Phoenix Brophy Prep's Chase Knox, Tucson Amphitheater's Gaven De'filippo and Mesa Red Mountain's Austin Freeman as the quarterback MVP.
Schuman said it was a five-man race among quarterbacks, but added that Gehrke, who backed up Will King last season on the varsity, "didn't have a bad throw."
"He had spectacular drop on his passes," Schuman noted. "He beat out some good guys. How that translates in football games, you don't know. But it was a good QB group. I was shocked."
Wide receiver Davonte' Neal was the sophmore MVP, after taking the freshman combine MVP honor last year. Neal is on a mission since leaving Laveen Cesar Chavez for Chaparral last month. He played most of his sophomore season with painful shin splints and didn't live up to the hype. He wants to show he's not all hype. He ran 40 yards in 4.41 seconds -- the fastest 40 time on the day. During one-on-one passing drills, Schuman said Neal was "uncoverable" and was a "man among boys."
Neal is only 5-8, which could be a knock on him in recruiting. But his skills set puts him "on another plane," Schuman said. Schuman compares him to Rutgers receiver Tim Brown, who has the same stature and made All-Big East last year after catching 55 passes for 1,150 yards and nine TDs.
Jordan Walker of Rockhust High in Kansas City, Mo., came here to visit his cousin, St. Mary's lineman Ian Walker. Since Ian was participating in the combine, Jordan figured he would, too. He came away with the sophomore running back MVP.
And Ian said his cousin, "didn't have a good combine."
" They had him at 4.6 in the 40. He's run faster than that," Ian said.
Jordan said he hardly touched the field last season on varsity with two junior running backs (who can run 40 yards in 4.2 seconds) ahead of him.
Sunday, the juniors have their turn from 8 a.m. to about 1 p.m.

The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder, who played free safety and running back last season for Millennium, earned the MVP award for the defensive back group.

| Easley has set a goal of 2000 yards rushing for the 2010 season. |
"It went real good for me last year," Easley said. "I thought I had a good year all around. I was my first year playing full-time on varsity and I thought I did well. I am looking to do better this year.
"I think with all of the players that we have returning that we should go real far next year. I honestly believe that we can go to states. I want to rush for 2000 yards next season that is my goal."
Easley has a self-reported time of 4.46 seconds in the forty-yard dash to go with a 235-pound bench max.
The coaches at the NUC said that Easley was the most compete defensive back at the combine and showed good leadership and athleticism.
Recruiting has just begun for Easley and at the moment only one school is standing out to him.
"Arizona is the only school I have any real contact with so far," Easley said. "I was invited to junior day down there. I grew up rooting for USC and Alabama. I moved to Arizona about six or seven years ago. I think I might like going out of state. If I was to stay in-state I think I would probably end up at UofA right now. I do plan on taking my time and taking all of my visits before I make a commitment."
Easley will have several college options but what position he plays is not going to be an important factor.
"I have not thought about what position I would play in college," Easley said. "I know that I would rather play than be watching from the sidelines. So whatever position gets me on the field.
"Good academics, a good coaching staff and a program where the coaches and the players have a good relationship is what will be important."
Easley plans on attending the National Underclassmen Combine held in San Diego later this year.
Latu one to watch
February 8, 2010
Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry two-way standout Mo Latu is one of the top defensive line prospects in the west this year. Latu picked up offers from Arizona State and Colorado state during his junior season.
The 6-foot-3, 320-pounder was named first-team all-region for offense and defense this season for the Panthers and also earned honorable mention all 5A by the Arizona Republic.
Latu's statistics -- 23 tackles, one sack and an interception -- are not a good indicator of the value he provides Perry on the field. Latu starts at center and plays every down at defensive tackle. He also is member of all the Panthers' special teams units.
ArizonaVarsity.com spoke to Latu at the National Underclassmen Combine in Apache Junction on Sunday. Latu was arguably the best defensive tackle prospect at the event.
"I have offers from ASU and Colorado State," Latu said. "I have been hearing from a lot of schools. In the last week or so Fresno State, BYU, ASU, Arizona, UCLA and USC had coaches come by the school. I have also heard from Boise State, Georgia, Colorado, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah and Washington.
"I can't say that I have any favorites right now," Latu said. "I would like to stay out west. I have to talk to my family and coaches when I make my decision."
One member of Latu's family already has a strong opinion on where he wants him to play his college ball. Nuku Latu, Mo's brother, is a defensive tackle at Colorado State.
"Yes has been talking to me a lot about it," Latu said.
Arizona State has been recruiting Latu for a while and he received a written offer last September.
"I am very high on ASU," Latu said "I know that some of the coaches from Arizona State have been by the school a few times. I watch them play on TV all the time. I really like their defense. I have only been down to the campus a few times but not for football. I will be going for junior day.
"I am going down to UofA for its junior day," Latu said. "I also will go out to USC for its camp this summer. I will try to see Boise State and Oregon State maybe too."
Latu, who bench presses 405 pounds and has a 495 squat max, is looking forward to his senior season.
"Last year went well but it could have gone better," Latu said. "We didn't have a lot of seniors on our team but that means that next year will be a different story with all the players that got experience. All of our juniors are taking big steps right now working hard to become bigger, faster and quicker."
