News Notes and Notoriety from LA Beat The Heat Junior Combine

East Bakerfield's Akeeli Holley was the leader of a dedicated pack last Sunday afternoon at Cathedral High School. The 5'7 159 lb RB ha terrific quickness and had all eyes on him during 1 on 1's. With an 8'4 broad jump, 4.35 shuttle run, good hands and sharp cuts, Holley left the combine with the Overall MVP trophy.
Travis Bernard (Valley Center) won the RB MVP following a spirited effort, The 5'6.5 174 pound Bernard had a 30 inch vertical, 8'10, ran a 4.35 shuttle, bench pressed 185 lbs 20 times and was in a league of his own during 1 on 1's.
Austin "Big Dog" Williams (Crenshaw) scaled in at 6'0 300 and stepped off the field with a buzz surrounding him. With the near-NFL size at age, impressive strength and good hands, Will most definitely be heard from again.
Christian Diehm (San Pedro) has all the tools to be a multi functional TE. At 6'5 213, he is quick, jumps well and knows how to block. He also has good hands and can play like a wide receiver. In addition to winning the TE MVP, Diehm showed that he is a major threat to the defense.
Kyrle Wilson (Ridgeview) Is a terror to the offense. The 6'1.5 221 lb standout won the LB MVP by displaying tremendous instincts and equally as impressive athleticism. He had a 31.5 inch vertical, 8'11 broad jump, ran a 4.57 40, bench pressed 185 lbs 20 times and neutralized the RB's. You will hear more about him in the near future.
Jamal Overton (Pomona) and Mason Miller (Espenanza) shared the Combine King award. Both had 33+ inch verticals and terrific broad jumps. With the game of football becoming more reliant on athleticism each and every day, these two become that much more important.
