Rising Stars look to Jumpstart their career this weekend in Jackson!

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog"
Vince Lombardi.

This famed quote by arguably the greatest coach in NFL history tells the story of the Jackson combine, as this small combine packed a Mike Tyson sized punch in 09'

Hinds HS' Darius Newton, 6'1.5 174, won the Combine King award but putting up terrific numbers. The athleticly gifted Newton had a 30 inch vertical, ran a 4.77 shuttle, 4.70 40 and had good quickness during 1 on 1's.

Superstar freshman Xavier Grindle (East Marion) rated amongst the top first year high schoolers overall last year after making a statement that his talent is the real deal. Grindle had an 8'8 broad jump, ran a sensational 4.55 40, bench pressed 135 lbs 21 times and starred during 1 on 1's.

Percy Lewis (Morton) had a field day during the 1 on 1's, zipping the ball right into his receivers hands. Lewis, the QB MVP, also ran a 4.49 shuttle and was easily the best player at his position.

"The Jackson camp reminds me of a good college basketball team that only plays seven guys", said NUC CEO and President David Schuman. "The mass amount of players aren't there, but the talent and intensity level reminds me of an army".

Current 8th,9th and 10th graders are slated to compete at 8 am on Saturday, while juniors take center stage 1 pm, also on March 14.

All athletes will partake in pro-style combine testing, including the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run along with position specific drills, 1 on 1’s and 3 on 3 competitions.

Athletes can sign up for the Jackson combine on www.nationalunderclassmen.com or call 1-888-NUC-MVP1 for more details.
