NUC Exclusive Interview With: Jeremy Tabuyo, FROSH MVP and Fastest Man in Hawaii

Coach Schuman: What did you do to prepare for the National Underclassmen Combine?

Jeremy Tabuyo: After school and on weekends I trained in my schools weight room and at a local gym. I worked on my bench press as well as over all strength. I also got together with some friends and practiced my 40 and shuttle technique. On Sundays I went to a passing camp mainly for recievers and quaterbacks to work on my hands and route running.

Coach Schuman:Have you been to the NUC before? How did you do? What were your expectations going into this years event?

Jeremy Tabuyo: This was the first time NUC held a combine in Hawaii so this was my first time attending an NUC event. I think I did pretty good but I know I can do better. I had a couple of injuries that affected my 40 and shuttle but I still managed to get a personal best in the 40 and broad jump. My goals going into this combine were to improve on all the tests as well as trying to be the best WR on the field.

Coach Schuman:You were MVP! What are your goals now?

Jeremy Tabuyo: It was an honor being selected as the overall MVP. My goals are to continue to train hard and get bigger, faster, and stronger. Right now I'm working on adding more body weight with a goal of about 185 by my senior year.

Coach Schuman:How did you hear about the National Underclassmen Combine and what was your favorite part about the event?

Jeremy Tabuyo: I found NUC online while searching for recruiting websites. My favorite part of the combine was the 1 on 1's because I like to test my skills against other players to see where I need to improve.

Coach Schuman:If you can choose 5 schools where you would be interested in playing what would they be?

Jeremy Tabuyo: Right now I'm still researching schools so I don't really have any favorites to list. Since I play WR a school that throws the ball a lot would be important.

Coach Schuman:What do you like about high school football? What are your goals for your team and yourself?

Jeremy Tabuyo: I just love the game of football. Being a freshman, high school football is a higher level for me and I like competeting at the highest level. My personal goals are to try out for the varsity team this year and hopefully earn some playing time. My team goals would be to win our conference (ILH) then go on to win a state championship.

Coach Schuman:Do you play other sports? Tell about your accomplishments?

Jeremy Tabuyo: Soccer and track. I've played soccer for 7 years and ran track for 5 years. For soccer I was in the Olympic Development Program and got to travel to OR and AZ  for tournaments. And track I qualified for the Hershey North American Final in the 200m dash held in Hershey PA. Both sports help keep me in shape and make me a better football player.

Coach Schuman:What is your favorite thing about football? what makes it a great sport to you?

Jeremy Tabuyo: I think football is the greatest sport because it combines so many different things. It's very physical, has lots of strategy and is played in all weather conditions. I like how the whole team gets pumped up for a game, it's almost like going into battle! The crowd gets you pumped up too!

Coach Schuman:Tell me about your training regimen...How do you get better every day?

Jeremy Tabuyo: I play three sports so I'm always doing some kind of training year round. Prior to the combine I was playing varsity soccer which kept me in pretty good shape and I get in the weight room whenever I have time. Track just started so I'll be doing that till football starts.

Coach Schuman:What are you looking for in college? Academically? football?

Jeremy Tabuyo: I'm looking for a college that will be the right fit for me both academically and athletically. Receiving a great education that will benifit me after football is very important. And a football program that will be fun and exciting. The location doesn't really matter.
