Juniors impress in Lexington

Tates Creek high school was the place to be last Sunday afternoon, with an abundance of talented juniors tearing up the field throughout the combine.

Aaron Mullins (Tates Creek) was the star of the session, winning the Overall MVP.  At 5'11 247, Mullins is a terrific pass rusher, has solid strength and impressive quickness.

Defensive lineman Justin Rivers took home the DL MVP Award. The 5'11 297 lb Henry Clay HS standout bench pressed 185 lbs 16 times and did it all during the individual period. He was strong, had a great drive, good movement, quick hands and listened well. Between his talent and willingness to improve, Rivers should have a nice future.
Allen County's "Sly" Cy Williams was very much Rivers' counterpart. The OL MVP at 6'3 285, Williams showed what it means to man down the line. He had great fundamentals, good feet, solid strength and it was evident there is big time potential in Williams.
Trevon Pendleton (Portsmouth West) is the epitome of humble success. He had a 33 inch vertical but felt no reason to boast. After running a 4.37 shuttle, he simply returned to the back of the line. Bench pressing 185 lbs 23 times wasn't didn't warrant flexing of the chest; to him at least. Between his athleticism, collectiveness and understanding of how to play his position, Pendleton took home the LB MVP and Leadership award. More importantly, this kid is a coach's dream and a prime example of how to play the game.
Blake "Show me the Money" Green  took home the WR MVP. The 5'10.5 157 lb Henry Clay HS star had a 9'0 broad jump, ran a 4.34 shuttle, 4.56 40 and was terrific during the individual period. He ran great routes, had nice speed, soft hands and knew how to create separation from the DB's.
George Rogers Clark HS QB Andrew Dini was atop the quarterback food chain. The 6'1 190 lber won the QB MVP, zipping the ball down field like a pro. He also had a good drop step and uncanny athleticism, as a 31.5 inch vertical and 8'7 broad jump aren't regularly found in a QB.
Josh Freidel (Elder) was guilty of statistical slaughter. The 5'11 192 lb sensation had a 32 inch vertical, 9'10 broad jump, ran a 4.48 shuttle and bench pressed 185 lbs 24 times. More importantly, he understood the game. Freidel took home the RB MVP and it was well deserved.
The Juniors in Lexington were well worth the price of admission.
