The NUC: Breaking Grounds in New Mexico

The National Underclassmen Combine hits New Mexico for the first time this February, providing athletes from the Land of Enchantment a world of opportunity.

	National Prospect Matt Hegarty plans to attend this weekend's event.

Participants will showcase their athletic talents in the 40-yard dash, broad jump, bench press, vertical leap, and shuttle run. In addition to the official combine testing, athletes partake in individual period, including drills, 1 on 1's, 3 on 3's, and other position oriented competitions.
The combine takes place February 27th at the Blades Multiplex Arena in Rio Rancho, with 8th and 9th graders hitting the field at 8 am, while the sophomores and juniors have the chance to shine at 1 o'clock. Although the NUC hadn't previously hosted a New Mexico combine, the state has produced some top tier talent.
Aztec HS' Matt Hegarty was one of the very best to grind it out on the gridiron in '09. At 6'6 260, Hegarty was the #1 rated sophomore lineman at the exclusive Top Prospect Camp. Hegarty took home a number of awards at the camp and is fielding offers from Arizona and Stanford amongst many other schools.
"The prospects of finding another the next Matt Hegarty is very exciting", said NUC CEO and President David Schuman. "On a state level, New Mexico has been moving up in terms of quality players, so having the opportunity to guide players with college potential is something I look forward to."
While the majority of high schoolers aren't 6'6 260, hard work and the eagerness to get better at the combine has helped guide athletes to the next level time and time again.
