2011 Arizona NUC Standouts
2011 NUC - Apache Junction Standouts
The National Underclassmen Combine returned to Apache Junction last weekend for its annual Arizona Combine. The event showcased 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders. Here are a rundown of ten of the prospects that gave strong performances.

Jalen Brown
Athlete
Phoenix Mountain Pointe
Class of 2014
The 6-foot-2, 160-pounder started at safety for Mountain Pointe this year but may have a bigger upside as a wide receiver. Brown was named the Overall MVP, the Combine King and Fastest Man (4.77 40-yard dash) for the 8th/9th Grade session. NUC coaches were impressed by his overall athletic ability for a 9th grader. He showed an excellent combination of change of direction and hands. He has a chance to be one of the best in state history before he his done.

Jalen Ortiz
Athlete
Peoria Centennial
Class of 2013
Ortiz ran a time of 4.55 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He was named the Combine King and Fastest Man for the 10th grade session. He showed great coverage skills and closing speed. As a sophomore, he saw extensive time on the Coyote varsity at running back, cornerback and as a returner. He rushed for over 800 yards, had 20 tackles on defense and scored 13 touchdowns.

Priest Willis
Safety
Tempe Marcos de Niza
Class of 2013
The 6-foot, 175-pounder was named the Overall MVP for the 10th grade session. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66 seconds, had a 8-foot-9 broad jump and a 27.5 inch vertical leap. He was excellent in coverage during the 1-on-1 session. He is good looking athlete who plays with a physical style.

Shadow Williams
Linebacker
Land O'Lakes, Florida
Class of 2012
Williams may not posses the ideal size/speed combination of a D1 linebacker but he has excellent instincts and leadership qualities. He earned Overall MVP honors after playing very well in the 1-on-1 portion of the event. His physical style of play was infectious at the event. He also took home Strongest Man honors after 19 reps at 185 pounds. He is originally from Arizona and said he is interested in playing for Arizona State.

DuShawn Brown
Wide Receiver
Phoenix Horizon
Class of 2012
Brown was named Combine King for the 11th grade session. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds, ran the shuttle in 4.13 seconds and had a vertical leap of 31 inches. He is a two-year starter at Horizon who earned first-team all-region honors at wide receiver this year. Arizona, San Diego State and Northern Arizona have shown early interest.

Streeter Turner
Athlete
Surprise Willow Canyon
Class of 2012
Turner took home the Coaches Award for the 11th grade session. He competed at wide receiver but when injuries caused an inbalance in numbers on the defensive side he volunteered to play defensive back and arguably was the best looking prospect at safety. He earned all-region honors on both sides of the ball this year at Willow Canyon.

LeAndre Vaughn
Cornerback
Avondale Agua Fria
Class of 2012
Vaughn was the Defensive Back MVP for the 11th grade session. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds, he had a 35-inch vertical leap and 9-foot-4 broad jump. Paul Elvira
Wide Receiver
Tempe Marcos de Niza
Class of 2013
Elvira is a good looking prospect who took home Wide Receiver MVP honors for the 11th grade session. He showed great hands and ability to adjust to the ball. He played extensively as a sophomore for Marcos de Niza at wide receiver last season. He caught 19 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns. He will also play safety next season.

Eric Burks

Burks earned Defensive Line MVP honors as well as the Coaches Award for the 10th grade session. He played physical and showed good quickness in drills. He has good bloodlines, as two older brothers, Adrian and Aaron, starred at Desert Vista and played for Indiana in college.

Austin Farnlof
