New high school football all-star game coming to Charleston

MAHWAH, NJ, – Continuing its tradition of showcasing some of the top high school football athletes in the country, NUC will unveil its first ever All-Star high school football game with the announcement of the NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game to be played at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina on December 31, 2010.
The NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game will feature some of the most elite high school seniors from the United States, Canada, Mexico and various European countries in this exclusive All-Star football game. Invited players include top performers who have participated in one of NUC's more than 70 combines all across the country during the 2010 season, in addition to international standouts. NUC Game Committee along with national recruiting analysts and talent evaluators will select players for both team rosters, Team NUC and Team World. Coach David Schuman, Founder and President of the National Underclassmen Combine, promises an extraordinary experience. "The NUC All-World Gridiron Classic will be unlike any other high school All-Star Game. We have spanned the globe to introduce the public not only to America's elite football players, but also those beyond US borders."
Charleston Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., is equally elated about this historic game. "The City of Charleston is proud and excited to host NUC's inaugural All-World Gridiron Classic Game and events. Bringing football fans from all over the country and around the world here to the great city of Charleston is a wonderful way to kick off the New Year and an event that residents of Charleston will certainly enjoy. The All-World Gridiron Classic coming to Charleston further demonstrates the City's commitment to drawing major sports events to Charleston."
The Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium, a landmark facility that has showcased many football games and special events since it opened in the early 1920s, is looking forward to the NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game and festivities. "The Citadel is indeed proud to serve as the host facility for the All-World Gridiron Classic in December," said Citadel Director of Athletics Larry Leckonby. "We welcome the opportunity to showcase our facility to the many young men who will be participating in this event in addition to those who will enjoy it from the stands. The City of Charleston and The Citadel will do what we can to make this experience a positive one for all involved."

Nearly 4,000 underclassmen athletes are expected to make their way to Charleston to participate in skills competition and other ancillary events, along with 114 seniors who have been invited to play in the NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game. So far, more than 50 seniors have accepted invitations to participate in the NUC All-World Gridiron Classic, including wide receiver and Oklahoma commit Kameel Jackson, (Arlington, Texas); Tight end and Virginia Tech commit Christian Reeves (McDonough, Georgia); John Varga (running back Kitchener, Ontario); linebacker and Georgia Tech commit Jabari Hunt-Days (Powder Springs, Georgia); NUC's fastest 40s record holder, Damiere Byrd (Sicklerville, New Jersey). More roster announcements to be made in the upcoming weeks as the stars of high school football prepare to light upCharleston.

The NUC All-World Gridiron Classic events begin Monday, December 27th with five days of nonstop football festivities including 7 on 7s, linemen challenges and a combine, culminating with the 2010 NUC All-World Gridiron Classic Game on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 6pm ET to be televised nationally. Coach Schuman, along with top Charleston officials, business leaders and Citadel representatives will make the official All-World Gridiron Classic Game announcement at a kick off event and press conference on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 5:30 at the Club Level of John Hagood Stadium at the Citadel.

Schuman's National Underclassmen Combine (NUC) is the longest running underclassmen event and the most respected combine and football camp in the country. Founded in 2005, NUC was formed to create a focused environment that allows freshmen, sophomores and juniors to showcase their skills and talents for college recruiters and recruiting organizations, giving each student-athlete ample opportunity to get recruited throughout his high school career, not just the spring before his senior year.
