Early playing time is the first thing many heralded recruits ask about when talking to college coaches.
But to Jeremiah George, that's not the top priority.
"I want to know how I would fit in with the program," Clearwater's standout linebacker said. "Not just with football. I also want to help out in the community."
A 6-foot, 215-pound senior, George is among the best players at his position in the area, and probably the state. To date, he has scholarship offers from 13 Division I-A programs, including UCF, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas, Marshall and Tulane. Scout.com rates him as the country's 69th-best outside linebacker prospect.
"He's strong, he's fast and he gets to the football," Tornadoes coach Tom Bostic said.
Here's what Austin had to say about his recruitment.
His favorites: "I like Iowa State a lot, I like Kansas, and I like UCF."
Which team he would pick today: "I couldn't because I haven't taken any visits yet (he will do so this fall). I know that's real important, especially with two of the three being so far away."
Who might be the next to offer: "Florida Atlantic. They're interested."
His first offer: "It was from Tulane. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was in March. I was in Coach Bostic's office, and he gave me some mail. I thought it was the usual mail, but when I read it, it said, 'We'd like to grant you a full scholarship.' I was like, 'What, wait, what?' I went outside and called my mom. I was so excited."
The weather at Iowa State and Kansas: "I've never seen snow, but I'm not worried about that. I'll grow accustomed to it. A lot of Florida guys go out there and do just fine."
The distance to those schools: "My mom (Shannon Sebek) would make her way to games. She loves watching me play. She tells me she'd take off work."
