Boston's Best!

·        St. Sebastian's Brian Starchan showed superstar potential during the NUC's Junior Session at Tabor Academy by taking home the Overall MVP Combine King and Fastest Man awards. The 6'0.5 194 lb QB Has a 30.5 inch vertical, 9'0 broad jump, ran a 4.45 shuttle, 4.47 40 and did it all during the 1 on 1's. He has a great arm, good mechanics and is clearly a dual threat. Starchan, who has interest from multiple D1 programs, only enhanced his market with this performance

·        Davidson Barthelemy (Brockton) is a stud defensive back and won the DB MVP. The 5'9.5 164 lb standout has a 30 inch vertical, 8'10 broad jump, runs a 4.40 shuttle and 4.55 40. He is tremendously quick and was able to lock down the WR's during the individual period.

·        Jason Sylva (Tabor Academy) took the combine by storm and was subsequently awarded the LB MVP. The 6'2 221 lb standout had a 9'5 broad jump, ran a 4.27 shuttle, bench pressed 185 lbs 28 times and was all over the field during 1 on 1's. Sylva's size and athleticism should take him a long way.

·        Capping the sophomore session was Overall/QB MVP AJ Doyle. The 6'2.5 226 lb Boyle had an 8'1 broad jump, bench pressed 155 lbs 25 times, had an excellent arm, nice mechanics and played in control. There is definitely a lot to like here.

·        Dayvon Williams (Commerce) was also a standout QB. Like Doyle, he had good mechanics, an 8'4 broad jump, ran a 4.15 shuttle and worked hard. The 6'3.5 186 lber is definitely a dual threat.

·        From his name alone, Pinkerton Academy's Emmitt Smith garners your attention. Perhaps what is more impressive is that, much like the all time great he shares a name with, Smith plays running back. The 5'7 144 lber was more than just a cool name, as his 4.35 shuttle and 4.50 40 earned him the Fastest Man award. He also had a 31 inch vertical and 8'4 broad jump. I would say keep his name in mind but those who know football permanently have Emmitt Smith embedded in their minds.

·        Freshman Sha-Ki Holines (Commerce) and Jarrid Grimett (Kennedy MS) were the two top performers during the first session.  Haines, a 6'1 236 lb lineman, and Grimett, a 5'9.5 183 lb running back, were both terrific athletes and stole the show with their performance during 1 on 1's.

·        Looks like these athletes don't need Boston's famed luck of the Irish to succeed!

Davidson Barthelmy Brockton HS, MA 11th CB #102	Barthelmy, 5'9.5 164, was the DB MVP. Barthelemy had a 30 inch vertical, 8'10 broad jump, ran a 4.40 shuttle, 4.55 40 and shut down the WR's during 1 on 1's.
Tariq Allen Three Rivers School, MA 11th WR #49	Allen, 6'2 180, won the WR MVP. Allen had a 9'3 broad jump, ran a 4.59 shuttle, had great hands and put together some solid routes.
Olajuwon Dickerson Milton HS, MA 11th DL #86	Dickerson, 5'11.5 217, brought home the DL MVP. Just like NBA legend Hakeem, Olajuwon was quick, running a 4.50 shuttle, strong, bench pressing 185 lbs 20 times, and athletic.
Zachary Lombard Manchester HS, CT 11th OL #140	Lombard won the OL MVP. The 6'1 268 lb monster ran a  5.10 shutte and manned down the line during 1 on 1's.
Jason Sylva Tabor Academy, MA 10th LB #76	Sylva won the LB MVP. The 6'2 221 lb standout had a 9'5 broad jump, ran a 4.27 shuttle, bench pressed 185 lbs 28 times and was a top performer 1 on 1's.
Jon Pieterse Worcester Academy, MA 11th QB #64	Pieterse, 6'0 172, won the QB MVP. Pierterse throws a great ball, is patient and has nice mechanics.
Bertrand LaRose Canton HS, MA 11th RB #27	LaRose won the RB MVP. The 5'7.5 191 lb LaRose had a 9'1 broad jump, bench pressed 185 lbs 20 times and did an awesome job during 1 on 1's.
Christophe Normand Edoudard-Montpetit, CN 11th RB #106	Normand was the Strongest Man. At 6'1.5 224, Normand bench pressed 185 lbs 29 times, had an 8'7 broad jump, 30.5 inch vertical and ran a 4.59 shuttle.
Erich Berzinskas The Morgan School, CT 11th QB #61	Berzinskas, 6'4.5 197, was the QB MVP. Berzinskas had a 30 inch vertical, 8'4.5 broad jump, threw a nice ball, had good mechanics and patience.
Robert Micari Christian Brothers Academy, NY 11th LB #75	Micari was the Leadership award winner. At 6'0 215, he worked hard, had a great attitude and hustled throughout the day.

Tim Joy Chelmsford HS, MA 10th LB #64	Joy was jumping for it after winning the LB MVP. A great athlete at 6'1 196, Joy had an NBA-like 36.5 inch vertical, 9'2 broad jump, bench pressed 155 lbs 30 times, ran a 4.45 shuttle and did an awesome job during 1 on 1's. A well rounded player indeed.

Max McDaniel Lexington HS, MA 10th LB #74	McDaniel, 6'0 213, was the Leadership award winner and co-LB MVP. He has a tremendous work ethic, 8'0 broad jump, is vocal, bench pressed 155 lbs 25 times and stood out during 1 on 1's.
Emmitt Smith Pinkerton Academy HS, NJ 10th RB #30	In NUC history, we have had quite a few fitting names. There was a Fastest Man winner with the last name of Jett, QB MVP named Cannon, but a running back named Emmitt Smith? Say it ain't so! The 5'7 144 lb Smith looks to be carrying on the legendary name in the backfield with a 31 inch vertical, 8'4 broad jump, 4.35 shuttle and 4.59 40 en route to being named the Fastest Man. His name alone will get him attention
Javar Coleman New Hampton HS, NH 10th CB #60	Coleman, 5'7 162, won the DB MVP. He played physical during 1 on 1's, jammed the WR's and ran a 4.33 shuttle.
Tony Fusco Queensburg HS, NY 10th RB #76	Fusco, 5'9 184, was the Strongest Man award winner. Fusco had a 9'0 broad jump, ran a 4.12 shuttle and bench pressed 155 lbs 29 times.
Kelly Dobbins Jr. Putnam HS, MA 10th WR #47	Dobbins, 6'0.5 173, took home the WR MVP. Dobbins had an 8'5 broad jump, ran solid routes, had good hands and worked hard.
Deonte Ramsey-Doe Boston College HS, MA 10th RB #55	Ramsey-Doe could one day roll in the dough after being crowned Combine King. The 5'10.5 171 lb RB had a 30 inch vertical, 8'5 broad jump, ran a 4.40 shuttle and 4.77 40.
Giovanni Hyppolite Brockton HS, MA 10th DL #127	Hyppolite, 5'11 264, won the DL MVP. He ran a 4.86 shuttle, solid lower body strength, quick moves and worked hard.
James Stillings Springfield HS, VT 10th OL #77	Stillings, 5'10.5 254, brought home the OL MVP. Stillings did a great job of keeping the opposing linemen still during the 1 on 1's, eliminating the possibility of them getting past him.
Richard Williams Central HS, MA 10th TE #75	Williams was the TE MVP. At 6'0 199, Williams had good hands and ran nice routes.

Jarrid Grimett Kennedy HS, CT 8th RB #56	Grimett was awarded the 8th Grade MVP and Fastest Man. The gifted 5'9.5 183 lb running back had a 7'11 broad jump, ran a 4.75 shuttle, 4.8 40, bench pressed 135 lbs 20 times and did a nice job during 1 on 1's.
Matt Morin Birdgewater Raynham HS, MA 9th DL #123	Morin won the DL MVP. A powerful 6'0 179 lb standout, Morin bench pressed 135 lbs and was in a league of his own during 1 on 1's.
Josh Morris LaSalle Academy, RI 9th S #63	Morris, 5'9 149, won the DB MVP. He ran a 4.62 shuttle, jammed the WR's during 1 on 1's and had solid lateral movement.
Andrew Ellis Barnstable HS, MA 9th LB #10	Ellis, 5'10 206 was awarded the LB MVP. Ellis had an 8'1 broad jump, ran a 4.57 shuttle and was a man on a mission during 1 on 1's.
Montrell Hopper Mount Plesant HS, RI 9th WR #35	Hopper for lack of a better words had great hops. The 5'8.5 146 lber had a 30 inch vertical, 8'1.5 broad jump and terrific hands, earning him the WR MVP.
Tyler Janssen Glastonbury HS, CT 9th RB #64	Janssen, 5'8.5 163, won the RB MVP. Janssen ran  4.72 shuttle, bench pressed 135 lbs 17 times and impressed during the individual period.
Liam McCarthy Glocester HS, MA 9th QB #4	McCarthy, 5'10 172, took home the QB MVP. McCarthy had a good arm, quick feet and was accurate.
Chris Redding Mt. Anthony HS, VT 9th QB #5	Redding, 5'6 142, was the Leadership award winner. Redding worked hard, had a great attitude and lead by example
Zackery Creeron Xavier HS, CT 9th OL #83	Creeron was the Strongest Man award winner. The 5'10 296 lb powerhouse tossed 155 lbs 23 times.

NUC MVP Interview: CJ Meredith Columbia Sophomore Overall MVP

Coach Schuman: What did you do to prepare for the National Underclassmen Combine?
CJ Meredith: I worked out everyday by lifting weights and training with a trainer to work on my speed.

Coach Schuman: Have you been to the NUC before? How did you do? What were your expectations going into this year's event?
 CJ Meredith: Yes, I had been before and I have gotten TE MVP and WR MVP, my goal for this year was to get overall MVP.

Coach Schuman: You were MVP! What are your goals now? 
CJ Meredith: To improve my numbers at the southeast top 100.

Coach Schuman: How did you hear about the National Underclassmen Combine and what was your favorite part about the event?
CJ Meredith: My coaches recommended it to me and my favorite part is 1 on 1's.

Coach Schuman: If you can choose 5 schools where you would be interested in playing what would they be?
CJ Meredith: 1) Alabama 2) Georgia 3) Clemson 4) LSU 5) Florida 

Coach Schuman: What do you like about high school football? What are your goals for your team and yourself? 
CJ Meredith: I love the relationships with my teammates and my goals are to lead my team to state and get all region.

Northeast Catholic's Sherman Steals the Show in South Jersey!

David Sherman had a day to remember last Sunday at Matawan High School. The 5'11 181 lb receiver made a number of impressive grabs during 1 on 1's, ran terrific routes, had Chris Carter like hands, consistently beat the DB's off the line and played with the swagger of a champion. The rising senior also had a 31 inch vertical and 8'4 broad jump en route to winning the Overall MVP and putting his name in the hat amongst the elite.

St Marks' Ryan Taylor was another respectable wideout with solid athleticism. The 5'9 153 lb Taylor, who won the WR MVP, had an 8'8 broad jump, ran a 4.39 shuttle, made some nice grabs and shook off the DB's like a bad habbit.                

QB's like Chris Lawshe (James Caldwell) are responsible for getting the ball to standouts like Sherman and Taylor. Lawshe, 6'2 181, has a strong arm, good mechanics, remained patient and maintained control during the 1 on 1's en route to winning the QB MVP.

Across the line holding it down for the defense were Tyler Murphy (Raritan HS LB MVP), Jhureel Pressley (Red Lion Christian Academy DB MVP) and Aaron Jennings (New Milford HS CO-DL MVP). The tricky trio showed that defense wins championships and made things quite uncomfortable for those on the other side of the ball.

Jahmere Irvin: The Second Coming

For most of the 1990's, Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin was a primer player in the NFL. He won three Super Bowls and consistently made plays. Irvin was subsequently selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame following a career that few will forget.

Red Lion's Jahmere Irvin has his hopes set high on being the next great receiver. At 5'9 149, he still needs to grow and get stronger, but the skills are clearly there. He has a 32 inch vertical, 9'1 broad jump, runs a 4.45 shuttle and displayed great skills during the 1 on 1's. Irvin has great hands, runs tight routes and can even grab the ball in traffic. Expect to see more of Irvin during the next two years.

Nigel Jones (Holy Spirit) and Taishan Tucker (Northeast Catholic) were neck and neck in the running back category throughout the combine. Both men were about 5'8, had good broad jumps and breakaway speed. They also performed at a terrific level during the 1 on 1's, earning them co-RB MVP honors.

Ryan "Big Dog" Brodio, 6'4'5 250, was a man amongst boys on the offensive line and earned himself the OL MVP.. His strength, quick feet and poise made him must see TV during the 1 on 1's, where he regularly shut down the opposing linemen. He also had an impressive 8'8 broad jump, which few at his position can claim.

Class of 2013 notes

·        Kenny Bigelow won the Overall MVP award and was almost literally a step above the competition. At 6'3 242, the d-lineman demolished the competition during 1 on 1's and bench pressed 155 lbs 26 times. He is yet another standout from Red Lion Christian.

·        Myles Nash (Timber Creek) has great height (6'4) for a freshman and really knows how to run a high powered offense. Nash throws a very good ball, has nice technique and a high football IQ, making him a unanimous choice for the QB MVP.

·        Wendell Smallwood of (yep you guessed it) Red Lion Christian is a standout d-back with terrific skills. He has an 8'11 broad jump, runs a 4.53 shuttle, bench pressed 135 lbs 20 times and is your prototypical ball hawk. DB MVP? You got it!

David Sherman Northeast Catholic HS, PA 11th WR #3	Sherman was THE MAN after winning the Overall MVP award. Loaded with talent at 5'11 181, Sherman had a 31 inch vertical, 8'4 broad jump, tremendous hands, the ability to shake off DB's and a nice first step.
Chris Lawshe James Caldwell HS, NJ 11th QB #63	Lawshe was the QB MVP. The 6'2 181 lb Lawshe had an 8'0 broad jump, good mechanics, a nice arm and remained patient during 1 on 1's.

Griff Griffiths Tomaqua Area HS, PA 11th LB #20	Cool name even cooler skills. At 5'9.5 190, Griffiths won the Co-LB MVP after jumping 8'2 on the broad, bench pressing 185 lbs 24 times and playing at a high level during 1 on 1's.
Dylan Gossler Quakertown HS, PA 11th TE #107	Gossler, 6'3 207, won the TE MVP. He had an 8'10 broad jump, 29 inch vertical, good hands, ran nice routes and has the ability to block as well.
Andrew Baumgardner St. Augustine Prep HS, NJ 11th OL #87	Baumgardner brought home the OL MVP. The 6'1.5 243 lb Baumgardner had a 7'9 broad jump, ran a 4.69 shuttle, bench pressed 185 lbs 20 times and silenced the d-linemen during 1 on 1's.
Aaron Jennings New Milford HS, NJ 11th DL #115	Jennings won the DL MVP. A powerful 5'11 275 lber, Jennings had a great drive during 1 on 1's and nice technique.

Myles Nash Timber Creek HS, NJ 9th QB #344	Just like NBA superstar Steve, Myles Nash knew how to help out his teammates. The QB MVP at 6'4 167, Nash threw a great ball, had great technique and played smart. From the hardwood court to the gridiron, Nash is definitely a players name.
Wendell Smallwood Red Lion Christian Academy, DE S #65	Smallwood was a big time standout. The 5'11 189 lb Smallwood won the DB MVP after impressing coaches with his 8'11 broad jump, 4.53 shuttle run, 20 reps at 135 lbs on the bench press and skills during 1 on 1's.
David Williams Northeast Catholic HS, PA 9th RB #62	Williams, 6'0 171, was the RB MVP and Fastest Man award winner. The fleet footed 6'0 171 lb standout ran a 4.61 shuttle, had an 8'0 broad jump, bench pressed 135 lbs 23 times and busted his tail during 1 on 1's.
Ricky Emerson Red Lion Christian Academy, DE 9th WR #66	Emerson won the WR MVP. At 6'0 157, He had an 8'3 broad jump, great hands, ran nice routes and was able to grab the ball in traffic during 1 on 1's.
Zakeer Washington Red Lion Christian Academy, DE 8th WR #64	Washington for lack of a better words was on the money en route to winning the co-WR MVP. The 5'7 168 lb Washington had an 8'3 broad jump, bench pressed 135 lbs 24 times, ran awesome routes and had soft hands.
Scrappy Hakeem Red Lion Christian Academy, DE 9th WR #65	Hakeem, 5'5 147, was sitting atop the throne as the Combine King. An exceptional athlete, Hakeem had an 8'7 broad jump, 28.5 inch vertical, ran a 4.45 shuttle and worked hard during 1 on 1's.
Tyler Schneider Raritan Valley HS, NJ 8th TE #47	Schneider was awarded the TE MVP. Scaling in at 5'11.5 189, Schneider had good hands and the potential to be an excellent blocker.
Duboris Ross Pius X HS, PA 9th RB #28	Ross has no quit in him. He keeps those around him pumped up. The 5'9.5 15 lb running back also shows how to get the job done and was named the Leadership Award winner. Coaches love players like this.
Manuel Serrano Red Lion HS, DE 9th OL #80	Serrano, 5'11 272, brought home the OL MVP. Serrano used his fearsome size to bench press 155 lbs 20 times and neutralize the DL during 1 on 1's.
Kenneth Bradley Jackson Memorial HS, NJ 8th LB #54	Bradley, 5'9.5 182, won the 8th Grade MVP award. Bradley had an 8'5 broad jump, ran a 4.6 shuttle, bench pressed 135 lbs 20 times and did a  nice job during 1 on 1's. He is loaded with potential.
Grant Roberts Concord HS, DE 9th LB #70	Roberts, 5'10 225, nabbed the LB MVP award. Roberts bench pressed 135 lbs 28 times, was powerful during 1 on 1's and played with a high level of intensity.
