Juniors Put Together a session to remember in Dallas!

Ty Hook came into the combine looking to star and left the event as an athlete we will never forget. Mission accomplished and then some.

The Denton Ryan HS star stepped onto the field 5'11.5 217 and ended his day with people buzzing about his jaw dropping performance. Hook, the Combine King and Strongest Man award winner, had a 35.5 inch vertical, 10'0 broad jump, ran a 4.36 shuttle, 4.48 40 and bench pressed 185 lbs 32 times. He also had tremendous intensity during 1 on 1's, using his unprecedented athleticism to lock up the offense.

Simply put, there are top notch NFL players who can't produce the numbers Hook, a muscular linebacker, did. The sky is truly the limit for this kid, who put together one of if not the best stat cards in NUC history.

As good as Hook was, Sam Houston's Kameel Jackson ran the show from an offensive standpoint en route to taking home the Overall MVP. The 5'11.5 195 lb WR had a 31 inch vertical 9'9 broad jump, ran a 4.15 shuttle, 4.5 40 and was an absolute beast during 1 on 1's. Jackson, who is headed to The University of Oklahoma in fall 11'.  has good size, excellent speed, created space between himself and the DB's and had the hands of an NFL All-Pro receiver.

Jalen Parker (Duncanville) and James Driskell (McKinney Boyd) shared the WR MVP. Both are undersized (Parker 5'5, 134 and Driskill, 5'8.5 151) but had solid athleticism and pure position skill. Each had an 8'11.5 broad jump, ran shuttles in the 4.50 range and Driskell also darted across the field in 4.4 seconds in the 40 yard dash. With good hands and tightly ran routes, both have a bright future.

Zack Knickman (Lake Highlands) has good potential and the heart of a champion. The 5'6 190 lb running back won the Leadership Award after simply refusing to quit, even though he was competing against some of the best players around. Knickman also had a 33.5 inch vertical, 9'4 broad jump, ran a 4.49 shuttle and bench pressed 185 lbs 26 times. RB's aren't typically leaders like this so Knickman is definitely a special player.

Ross Hudson (Rockwell) rocked the show during 1 on 1's en route to taking home the QB MVP. The 5'11 194 lb Hudson had a great arm, good footwork and made decisions like a pro. He also had an 8'6 broad jump and quick feet, running a 4.37 shuttle. As good as the WR's and RB's were, the Ross Hudson's of the world make them that much better.

Props must also go out to big Jared Raiford (TE MVP from Round Rock HS),  Lance Williams (LB MVP from John Horn), Alfredo Morales (OL MVP Sam Houston), and Ronnie Green (RB MVP Cedar Hill). All were outstanding players who were an integral part of one of our top combines to date.

News and Notes from Duncanville Sophomore Session!

• Zack Sanchez (Keller Central HS) was the day's top performer, taking home the coveted Overall MVP award. The 5'10 152 lb Sanchez was a lock down safety and a first class ball hawk who made things uncomfortable for the offense during 1 on 1's. Sanchez displayed good leaping ability (9'2 broad jump) and quick feet, running a 4.36 shuttle and 4.47 40

• Jeffrey Thomas (Duncanville) and repeat elite performer Emilio Vera (North Crowley) shared the WR MVP. Thomas had a lanky 6'2 172 lb frame, an 8'11 broad jump and caught the ball at its highest point during 1 on 1's, ala Randy Moss. The 5'9 143 lb Vera ran smooth routes, had great awareness and made a number of impressive catches.

• When I tell you Desoto's top rated linebacker is the truth, I ain't lyin! Alex Lyons, 5'11.5 204, took home the LB MVP after putting up terrific numbers and starring during 1 on 1's. Dalton Santos (Van) shared the award with him and bench pressed 155 lbs 38 times. At 6'1 231, the possibility of Santos switching over to line becomes that much more realistic.

• Eric "The Hawk" Hawkins can almost literally fly across the field. The Longview HS WR ran a 4.57 shuttle and a jaw dropping 4.34 40 en route to winning the Fastest Man award. He also had a 32 inch vertical and 9'5 broad jump, making him a serious problem for d-backs.

• Darrick Harger (Charles Page) Donnovan McNabbed his way to the QB MVP. At 6'2.5 199, Harger had a cannon for an arm, a quick release and ran a 4.52 shuttle. With quick feet and a huge arm, Hager should be able to do something at the next level.

Fantastic Freshman Take Center Stage in Dallas!

An excellent group of Freshman stole the show at the Dallas combine last weekend, taking Duncanville HS by storm. Dallas, a talent rich city, has high expectations every time the combine rolls around, but a talented team of players proved that there was substance behind the hype.
Cordray Love (Duncanville HS) took home the Overall MVP award. A 5'7 152 lb cornerback, Love dominated during 1 on 1's, ran a 4.42 shuttle, 4.50 40, had a 30.5 inch vertical and 8'0 broad jump. His ability to completely shut out WR's is impressive.
After winning the Super Bowl in 2006 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the bus came to a final stop, as Jerome "The Bus" Bettis announced his retirement from the game of football. Since the retirement of the great Bettis, football fans have been searching for the second coming. Enter Crowley HS' Daniel Gresham.
Gresham, a 5'9 220 lb powerhouse, won the RB MVP. Gresham bench pressed 135 lbs 29 times, an 8'4 broad jump, good speed for a player his size and unprecedented power for a halfback. There are few RB's at this level built like him and Gresham has excellent potential.
Taijuan Thomas (Ouachita Parish) is an athletic running back with a lot to offer a team. At 5'8 159, Thomas had a 31.5 inch vertical, 9'2 broad jump, ran a 4.48 shuttle, 4.55 40 and bench pressed 135 lbs 23 times.
Keenan Blair sent a number of passes airborne during the 1 on 1's. Blair, 5'10 155, had a strong arm, a terrific/quick release, ran a 4.36 40 and good fundamentals en route to winning the QB MVP.
Rider HS' Masley Pape may not have the size of your prototypical d-lineman, but he has the skills to pay the bills and the heart of a champion. The DL MVP at 5'9 171, Pape had a 30.5 inch vertical, 9'0 broad jump, ran a 4.35 shuttle, bench pressed 135 lbs 26 times and created major match up for opposing linemen during 1 on 1's due to his quickness.
Rashaan Reason's (West Mesquite) speed is one of the reasons he would excel as a kickoff returner. The 5'7 155 lb Reason ran a 4.48 shuttle, 4.45 40 en route to taking home the fastest man. He changes directions well and is light on his feet, making him a major threat on the ground.
From top to bottom, the Dallas freshman session was worth the price of admission.

Prospect Profile: Detchauz Wray East St. Louis HS

Detchauz Wray, East St. Louis HS, MO Class of 2010: From an athletic standpoint, Wray's abilities can take him a long way. Lanky and lean at 5'11 162, this standout can play a number of positions and is a valuable asset on the gridiron. Wray, a star at the 08' St. Louis combine, is headed to The University of New Mexico, turning down offers from six other D-1 programs.
Future Outlook: Wray's ability to play both QB and WR make him a serious threat. He    has good strength for a player his size and runs a 4.4 40. Where he plays in college      remains to be seen but before taking the field, he must add at least 15 pounds to his frame in order to withstand hits from D-1 players. Once he muscles up a bit, Wray will be a serious problem for everybody except the Lobos.

Dallas NUC: Underclassmen standouts-From Barry Every, Rivals.com

March 15, 2010
Dallas NUC: Underclassmen standouts
MORE: Rivals.com Scouting the Nation 2010
DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Roughly 200 athletes were able to compete on Day 1 of the Dallas National Underclassmen Combine on Saturday.
One of the fastest 40 times in NUC history was recorded while one young man came all the way from Virginia for the sole purpose of competing against the best in Texas.
Below is a breakdown of the top prospects as seen by Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Barry Every.

Dallas National Underclassmen Combine Standouts: 2012/2013 class
GERALD GAFFORD, 5-11/175, ATH, RICHARDSON (TEXAS) BERKNER (2012)
ASSETS: Has good speed, excellent quickness and exceptional ball skills.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Worked out at running back and if that is his desired position he will need to add some muscle mass and size to take the pounding.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Showed exceptional quickness during agility work and was nearly impossible for the linebackers to cover one-on-one. His efforts earned him the Sophomore RB MVP Award.
CONCLUSION: Gafford showed enough overall athleticism to project at several positions. He could be a RB, CB, WR or even a safety at the next level. He was clearly one of the best college prospects on the day.
DERRICK GREEN, 5-10/231, RB, RICHMOND (VA.) HERMITAGE (2013)
ASSETS: Tremendous strength, massive size for his age, quick feet and a real hard worker.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Must improve his body control and hands while catching passes or he will find himself on the defensive side of the ball.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Ran an impressive 4.64 40 and a 4.32 shuttle while earning the Strongest Man and Leadership Award for the freshman class.
CONCLUSION: I do not think there is any question that he is a legit FB prospect at the next level right now. But Green's skill set likely makes him a solid ILB recruit.

DANIEL GRESHAM, 5-9/220, RB, CROWLEY (TEXAS) (2013)
ASSETS: Had very soft hands, good body control and strength.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: He could exchange some bad body weight for muscle mass over the next three years.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Amazingly, this thick running back prospect had the best hands and was nearly unstoppable out of the backfield as a receiver. His efforts garnered him RB MVP.
CONCLUSION: Another prospect that looks like a legit FB right now. He has the build to get up underneath linebackers while blocking and showed the offensive skills to be a receiving threat out of the backfield.
ERIC HAWKINS, 5-11/167, WR, LONGVIEW (TEXAS) (2012)
ASSETS: Fastest athlete that I have seen this year at any age, and a very hard worker.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Could improve his ability to plant and cut while selling the route. Also needs to make more natural adjustments to the ball while it is in the air.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Ran a blistering 4.34 40, earning the title Fastest Man.
CONCLUSION: There is no doubt that he has the skill set to become a kick returner and a serious deep threat. If Hawkins can improve his route running, expect him to become a household name in the state of Texas because speed kills.

CORDRAY LOVE, 5-7/155, CB, DUNCANVILLE (TEXAS) (2013)
ASSETS: Tremendous change of direction with good speed and a real competitive nature.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Love will definitely have to get thicker and stronger over the next three years while staying focused on improving his skills.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: No defensive back came out of his backpedal as quickly as Love. This enabled him to make plays on the ball with regularity. He walked away with Overall MVP honors.
CONCLUSION: Love will need to add at least another inch in height to become a legit DI prospect, but he already possesses the skills to be a true cover corner at the next level.
ALEXANDER LYONS, 6-0/204, OLB, DESOTO (TEXAS) (2012)
ASSETS: Good hips, above-average speed and exceptional coverage skills
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Lyons will need to continue to add more muscle mass and strength because the backs are bigger and stronger in college.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: He stayed focused over the entire camp on improving his skills and while becoming a better player. Lyons was able to turn and run with every back and earned a share of the LB MVP award.
CONCLUSION: He has already earned Newcomer of the Year in his talented district, and is well on his way to becoming a solid DI prospect. Lyons' skill set is perfect for defending the spread offense.
DALTON SANTOS, 6-1/231, ILB, VAN (TEXAS) (2012)
ASSETS: Excellent overall size, good speed and very physical.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Santos could improve his lateral movement and flexibility which would assist him in going sideline to sideline.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: He physically mauled running backs as they crossed the line of scrimmage, knocking several off balance and even to the ground. His stellar efforts earned him a share of the LB MVP award.
CONCLUSION: Already has the size to be considered a DI ILB recruit. If he continues to grow he could become a defensive end at the next level.
ZACK SANCHEZ, 5-10/155, CB, KELLER (TEXAS) CENTRAL (2012)
ASSETS: Has the height, quickness and overall speed to become a true cover corner.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: He must add more muscle mass and strength to aid in durability and be effective in run support.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: No defensive back came away with more picks than Sanchez. His ability to come out of his backpedal along with tremendous ball skills made him a difference maker on this day. He ran away with the Overall MVP honors for the sophomore class.
CONCLUSION: Plays safety in high school but showed the speed and quickness to project as corner prospect at the collegiate level. If he can gain 20 more pounds over the next two years I foresee him being one of the top defensive backs in the state of Texas.
JEFFREY THOMAS, 6-3/174, WR, DUNCANVILLE (TEXAS) (2012)
ASSETS: Possesses the desired height, body control and hands to be a go-to receiver at the next level.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: In order to attract national attention he must improve his track speed. Thomas will also need to work on improving his strength which will help him get off of man coverage.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Always caught the ball at its highest point and demonstrated the ability to make the tough catches look easy. Thomas ended up sharing WR MVP honors in the afternoon session.
CONCLUSION: College coaches are continually looking for basketball players that make excellent receivers and there is no doubt that Thomas has that potential. He will be counted on this fall as a go-to guy for his team. With a good season he could turn into one of the top WR prospects in Texas.
EMILIO VERA, 5-10/155, WR, CROWLEY (TEXAS) NORTH CROWLEY (2012)
ASSETS: Very quick feet, excellent route runner and the surest of hands.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Vera must improve his 40 time a tad while adding some size and strength.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Showed tremendous football speed, leaving defensive backs corkscrewed in the ground with his crisp route running. His efforts earned him a share of WR MVP honors.
CONCLUSION: College coaches looking for a sure-handed receiver with the knack for finding the open spot in the defense will like this prospect. If he can add the size and strength I expect him to be a perfect fit for a pass-happy SMU or Houston offense.
GARRETT YORK, 6-2/225, ILB, CRANDALL (TEXAS) (2013)
ASSETS: Has exceptional size for his age and proved to be very physical.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: He could improve his overall speed and change of direction just a tad.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: York dwarfed the smaller running backs and was able to physically manhandle them during one-on-ones. He also did a nice job turning and running with the backs running routes. His hard worked paid off as he won a share of the LB MVP award.
CONCLUSION: It is definitely not out of the realm of possibility that this huge freshman will grow into a SDE over the next three years. He will definitely be one to keep an eye on in East Texas.

Dallas NUC: Class of 2011 standouts
MORE: Dallas NUC: Underclassmen standouts | Rivals.com Scouting the Nation 2010
DUNCANVILLE, Texas - Roughly 120 athletes came to compete on Day 2 of the Dallas National Underclassmen Combine on Sunday.
An Oklahoma commit with nothing left to prove left the camp with Overall MVP honors and an underclassmen gunslinger stole the show.
Below is a breakdown of the top prospects as seen by Rivals.com National Recruiting Analyst Barry Every.

Dallas National Underclassmen Combine Standouts: 2011 class
JOHNATHAN ABERCROMBIE, 5-8/164, APB, CEDAR HILL (TEXAS)
ASSETS: Has excellent speed, good change of direction and is very competitive.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Will need to add more muscle mass and strength while working on becoming a more consistent pass catcher.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Ran the fastest 40 of the day at 4.42 while posting a 4.26 shuttle and a 32-inch vertical.
CONCLUSION: Managed to get some playing time this past year in a loaded backfield at Cedar Hill. He will again be sharing carries but should see a bigger workload. Look for him to get looks from C-USA, MAC and WAC teams looking to improve their speed.
KENTRELL BROTHERS, 6-0/207, ILB, GUTHRIE (OKLA.)
ASSETS: Very physical, ultra competitive and instinctual.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: As good as he is on the film and on the field he needs to work on all phases of combine testing. Brothers will most likely end up playing inside so adding at least 25 more pounds is a must.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Did the best job of all linebackers of taking backs off their intended routes and rendering them useless in the passing game. His efforts garnered a share of the LB MVP award.
CONCLUSION: He already has seven offers, and more are likely to come if colleges expect any chances of signing him. Expect Brothers to be a stalwart on special teams and a possible two-year starter.
JAMES DRISKELL, 5-9/151, WR, MCKINNEY (TEXAS) BOYD
ASSETS: Possesses very good speed, runs sharp routes and is a sure-handed receiver.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: This future college slot receiver has to gain more weight and improve his overall strength. This will help him combat tight man coverage and withstand the beating receivers take over the middle.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: One of three players on the day that broke a 4.5 in the 40, and he was money catching balls during individual and one-on-ones. Driskell's efforts did not go unnoticed as he grabbed a share of WR MVP honors.
CONCLUSION: His skill set fits perfect into pass-happy offenses like SMU and Houston or any team looking to upgrade their speed at the inside receiver position.
DANE EVANS, 6-0/182, PQB, SANGER (TEXAS) (2012)
ASSETS: Quick release, above average arm strength and excellent accuracy.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: There is never a guarantee that someone will get taller, so adding size and strength while improving mobility is always an asset for a shorter quarterback.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: It was obvious he had varsity experience because Evans understood the importance of depth in the pocket and making quick and precise reads during the one-on-ones. His overall performance would have won the QB MVP award from the previous day.
CONCLUSION: This is one gunslinger I recommend all colleges keep a close eye on since he still has two more years to hone his passing skills. Even if he does not grow another inch I believe he has the tools to develop into a solid DI prospect.
RONNIE GREEN, 5-7/166, APB, CEDAR HILL (TEXAS)
ASSETS: Tremendously quick feet, good speed, above-average hands and excellent body control.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Adding at least 10 more pounds of muscle mass will allow him to carry the ball a few more times a game.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Green had the quickest feet of any player, regardless of position, in this camp. He was also nearly impossible to cover, making precise cuts that caused linebackers to whiff as they came up to make contact. He was a no brainer for RB MVP.
CONCLUSION: One of many backs that shared carries last season at Cedar Hill (Texas). After seeing his performance on Sunday I have to believe Cedar Hill coach Joey McGuire is going to find ways for Green to get more touches. His skill set makes him the quintessential all-purpose back.
TY HOOK, 6-0/217, ILB, DENTON (TEXAS) RYAN
ASSETS: Tremendous overall body structure, very good speed and as strong as they come for his position.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Hook actually plays defensive end, and he really needs as much practice as possible moving in space while covering backs and tight ends.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: His muscular body structure and combine numbers were mind boggling. Hook ran a 4.48 40, 4.38 shuttle, benched 185 pounds 35 times, recorded a vertical of 35.5 inches and had a 10-foot-0 broad jump. He easily took claim as Combine King and Strongest Man.
CONCLUSION: He is receiving interest at this time, but most college coaches are trying to decide if he can make the transition from playing with a hand on the ground to playing in on two legs. Someone will take a chance on him being a downhill inside linebacker based on his testing numbers alone.
ROSS HUDSON, 6-0/194, DQB, ROCKWALL (TEXAS) HEATH
ASSETS: Has good arm strength, above-average mobility and nice spin on his passes.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs varsity game experience which should help improve his timing with receivers and his confidence.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Showed the arm strength to make all throws during one-on-ones, and did a nice job verbally communicating with his receivers. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he won QB MVP.
CONCLUSION: Needs to hit the camp circuit at colleges still looking for a quarterback. He should be able to get the right help from Heath coach Mickey Moss who recently has sent quarterbacks to Baylor and Houston.
KAMEEL JACKSON, 6-0/195, WR, ARLINGTON (TEXAS) SAM HOUSTON
ASSETS: Exceptional hands and body control with much-improved speed.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to continue to run track because it has already made a major difference in his 40 speed.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Has that ability to make plays on balls thought to be uncatchable. Jackson also does a nice job selling routes and coming out of his breaks. He ended up being the easy choice for Overall MVP in this camp.
CONCLUSION: Already committed to Oklahoma and he stated that he was very firm even though Texas A&M and Notre Dame have not given up recruiting him.
ALFREDO MORALES, 6-3/277, OG, ARLINGTON (TEXAS) SAM HOUSTON
ASSETS: Has good overall body structure, is not afraid to mix it up and excellent use of hands.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: He could work on improving the quickness of his pass set.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Did an excellent job running his feet after initial contact with defenders during the one-on-ones. There was little doubt about his award-winning performance throughout the day among the linemen.
CONCLUSION: Currently has one offer, but that will increase as colleges make their treks through his school during the spring recruiting period. He has the size and talent to play at the BCS level.
MARCUS VAUGHN, 6-0/201, WR, PEARLAND (TEXAS) DAWSON
ASSETS: Very muscular receiver that runs sharp routes, and possesses above-average hands.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to improve his foot quickness and overall speed which should help him create more separation between himself and defenders.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: His overall body structure is that of a huge running back which he uses to his advantage while making catches in tight coverage.
CONCLUSION: Currently has a Houston offer, and could gain more recruiting momentum during the spring evaluation period. He is an ideal possession receiver in the spread offense.
OTHERS WHO IMPRESSED:
Kenneth Davis, WR, Arlington (Texas) Juan Seguin; James Floyd, OG, Fort Worth (Texas) Paschal; Jalen Park, WR, Duncanville (Texas); Blake Turner, DQB, Rockwall (Texas)
